I just stumbled upon this little web page right here [http://www.chinagreenelvis.com/brainsharts/death-to-the-d-pad.html], and it gives instructions on how to fix the standard 360 controller's D-Pad.

It can't be this simple.

Is it really this simple?

Has anyone tried this out? I'm not in a condition where I could actually try this out on my own, so I feel I must ask.

nevermind.

It sounds quite simple, but I don't trust the simple solutions in life, they tend to be luck.

Oh, well my D-pad troubles are non-existent. So i can't really say that i have heard of this problem or had to deal with it.

Or they void your warranty, and or destroy your stuff even more.

Huh...
Awesome cakes. The backdrop to that site hurt me eyes...

OT: I have never used the D-Pad apart from hot keying weapons in F3 so I wouldn't know.

Slightly off topic, I don't know what surprises me more. The writers anger at being told to use a stick or the fact he has a girlfriend.

...Interesting.
I'll try this out today or tomorrow, and get back to you on that.

That link doesn't work.

What do you mean fix?

It does for me.
He fixed it by the time you arrived.
I'm surprised I took so long to fix it that people had the time to try it out and respond.

Seriously, I edited it immediately after I posted it.

That would be what happens when you don't have the luck.

Like a friend of mine who tried the towel trick, and it melted his disc tray and all the rubber/plastic wire sheathing... LOL.

Considering how much I love fighting games, how much I hate arcade sticks, and how fantastically horrible the 360 D-Pad is, I may very well give this a shot.

Besides, it's only a minor alteration to the controller. If it didn't work out, it'd be as simple as taking the controller's cover off and removing the washer.

Huh, that's actually pretty logical.

See, the "washer" (which I'll just call "disc" from now on, since to me a "washer" is an abbreviated word for the thing used to wash the sediment out of dirty undies) doesn't fit entirely over the peg in the middle. This elevates the D-pad, as it can no longer rest snugly on top of the peg. The actual button triggers appear to be the thin lines flaring around from the peg (obviously), so if you press, for instance, the down button, the left and right buttons still have about the disc's thickness separating them from their triggers, thus not registering a press. However, without the disc, the buttons (or, rather, the round part between the buttons) are pressed just far enough to register a press. By merely adding a little extra clearance, in the shape of this disc, that process no longer takes place, and the D-pad is fixed.

Like I said, it's entirely logical when you think about it.

Word up to the logic :p

It looks like it works. It also makes sense, but I won't say why because Strategia summed it up nicely.
I know I have one of those lying around the house somewhere, I'm going to look for it later on. It's also worth a try, I mean, I doubt anyone's controller would mess up in trying this.

The 360 D-pad is quite fiddly and annoying on things with quick weapon switch, but otherwise there's not really a use for it.
