I was wondering if anyone thinks the current-gen consoles will ever be a collectable item like an Atari or a Sega Genesis. I think the systems themselves will become collectables, but the games only value is the orginal box and manual. The games can be DLed after the copyrights expire and mount them to a DVD. What do you guys think?

Both consoles will be held aloft by future generations as a warning against catering to the lowest common denominator.

Copyrights won't expire for a looooong time. Plus, the PS3 hasn't been hacked yet, so you'll need the original games too. The issue is games that need to be patched. Generally, I think a GOTY Edition will hold more value in the long run, or a Greatest Hits game, as they'll have the necessary patches included. Once a service shuts down or moves on, patches and DLC won't be available, and a very good game could be completely unplayable to the point that systems with content installed are more valuable than those without.
