Xbox 360 Connection Problem

Right... So I've gone back to my 360 after around about a month of not playing it. I turn the console and a controller on. They're no longer sync'd. I'm prompted to update the software for the 360. So I try to re-connect the controller through the normal means. However only the two lights on the left side of the 360 "cycle" and the controller refuses to sync. I've followed the instructions on the Xbox website but nothing works.

Is there anyone that has had this problem and resolved it that could help?

Do you have an xbox 360 play and charge kit? If you do plug the USB cable into your controller and the xbox 360 and they should automatically sync. Other than this I have no idea.

I don't, no. And I don't exactly have the cash to go and get one. Urgh.

if youre stuck at the update screen, you can use a USB keyboard to get past it, then try re-syncing

Have you tried changing the batteries? It might not be connecting because the signal from the controller is too weak.

I don't have any fresh ones. That might be the problem... I'll get some and post back with the results.
