You need drivers and if its wireless you'll need the RF reciever.

I use the wireless one and I have no problem with it working.

Drivers [http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/download/download.aspx?category=Gaming], Just go to that link and select the approiate options in the drop down boxes.

I've been trying it with prototype, which, as I understood it was supported.
I have a memory of using it before with another game and it was just a case of plugging it in, but that was at a friends place. I checked google for drivers and couldn't find anything that wasn't trying to sell me a wired controller.
I don't think Prototype is controller supported, least that's what the Steam store says.

If I remember you need some kind of software to use console controllers with certain games, My bother used to use a program called SwitchBlade to playing games.

Problem is it aint free:/

$1.99/month
$19.99/yearly

Having just installed and tried to play prototype on my PC, I've decided that I don't like how the keyboard/mouse feel, and would like to plug in my 360 controller and use that. Sounds good in theory, if a little out of character of me to ditch my kb&mouse, however I can't get it to work. Is there any special trick to making the controller work with windows?
I've plugged it in and turned it on, but I'm not getting much response from it, and I can't change the keyboard and mouse option. Any tips?

uh your using a wired controller right?

Wireless with the USB cable plugged in, apparently it still only sends a wireless signal, so it isn't going to work without a receiver :(

*coughs

Thought that might be the problem. Sorry man. Good luck in finding a solution though

This confuses me.

You have a console which is specifically built for gaming with a controller, and yet you still want to plug it into your computer.

If you want to use your wireless controller for PC gaming, you need this:

Not every game is released for the 360 you know. And most games play and look better on the PC.

Yea, I know. So why plug a pad into it?

Because he thinks Prototype would play better with a 360 controller. He has Prototype for the PC, and buying a 360 version when he has it for PC is wasting money.

I believe you have to download some special software to use the wireless controller.

Just try a google search for it.

I had a similar controller problem. Try these drivers: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/55158

If that doesn't work, I could probably find some more.

Some games don't automatically detect controllers (Counter Strike Source, Battlefield 2, etc)
but you can download programs like Xpadder to map buttons to keys and stuff, works quite well.
