Eh, Microsoft's made quite a few mistakes in my opinion (like seemingly doing everything in their power to keep MMOs off the Xbox)

But I suppose it's to be expected when dealing with a company that really likes closed systems.

When did constantly upgrading something every couple of months, spending hundreds of dollars, then sifting through bug reports and files suddenly become "superior" to just putting in a disc and playing?
Lolwut?

Paid for my gaming rig a year ago. Didn't see any bug reports. Maxes out every game on the market.

I win :D

i chalk it up to just not having a major screw up ever since that whole self destructing console thing that happened, so compared to the wii just having their game release pool dry up, and the general mess that happened on sony's end, xbox just looks better because its got two comparatively uglier friends

also, for people who feel the need to dump on pcs just for the hell of it, perhaps you should go back to skyrim, and instead of sifting through bug reports, watch as that guy you were talking to gets stuck in the wall and invalidates all of your quests, with no way to fix it (and not ever knowing what the issue is) until microsoft remembers to put the patch up

if you get tired of that, you can join us at the super awesome underground fortress connected to all of the purchasable houses, and then perhaps we can all hop on that sweet airship and go joyriding

oh, wait, you can't

ever

You mean every 2-3 years, and two clicks at steam? Sure.

I know you're being facetious, but it sickens me how many people out there forget the fact that video games are toys, regardless of platform. Whether you're playing a video game with a controller or a mouse, rolling a d20, or screwing around with a Tonka Truck, you're playing with a toy.

Fanboys call other games "toys" like it's an insult.

I won't say that I think you're wrong, but I won't agree with you either. In my opinion, while video games can be toys (and there's nothing wrong with that) they can also be the deliverers of information and education, a means for an artist to express themselves, political statements and much more. In the same way that a book can well be nothing more than escapist fantasy or powerful symbols and pillars of revolutions.

But that's half the fun! If you have to struggle uphill just to get things to work, then it is so much more satisfying when they do.

In all seriousness, upgrades aren't that frequent or expensive, and with the advent of Steam, PC gaming doesn't have to be any less reliable that console gaming is these days anyway. (If steam breaks, then I'm just as screwed as if Xbox Live or PSN breaks)

Here's a better title "Microsoft Xbox 360 still in 3rd place globally but dominates in US according to guess work by NPD group".
Indeed. Its pretty funny that the guy who wrote this assumes that leading in the US market is the same as leading in the "console market" as a whole.

Now if they could just get the damn things to stop breaking down then most people would be more impressed.

Well the 360 may be leading sales in the US, but in Europe it's third, and in Japan it can't even outsell the PS2.Not sure on who's leading globally, but I'm willing to bet that it's actually pretty close, at least between 360 and PS3.

I must say I was not amused in the slightest by your comment about PC gamers watching from the heavens and you aren't helping the argument my accusation of the PC gaming community being full of assholes. Forgive me if you were being sarcastic though.
I also noticed how the article had a certain "bias" feel to it as well.

Yeah, but I bought my xbox about three years ago, and I'm still having fun with it. Don't we both win? :p

I hate this false idea of competition. Not aimed at you personally, dude, since you're clearly just messing about but plenty of people seem to have jumped into this thread (and every other one of this fucking forum) to cockslap people with their opinions on why PC gaming is better/worse than console, or which console is better/worse than other consoles. There is no competetion except among the companies who produce these machines. As an end-user, as long as you're having fun with your machine. it doesn't matter worth a fart in a hurricane what anyone else is doing. Why in the hell does it even matter which console sells most? How does that have any relation to the quality of your experience, that you can brag that your system of choice is out-selling some other guys'?

You paid your money. You had your good times. Those good times will not be improved in any way by claiming superiority over someone else's idea of what a good time is so just shut the fuck up about it already. Yes, maybe you can mod on your PC, but I didn't have mods when I played Skyrim and you know what? Still well over a hundred hours of fun. Nobody loses that fight! If we're all enjoying ourselves then we're all winners!

...

Phew.

Sorry. I've been holding that rant in for a while :p

Yeah, well... nah ah!

I think Zero Punctuation said it best when Ben summed it up as insecurity that the one console mummy bought for you/the one console you can afford might not be as good as another.

I don't play XBox. I bought one years back, hated the interface and after playing/forcing myself to finish Halo 3 I said "whelp, this is all it'll ever offer," and sold it to a friend. He has nothing but praise for it, but then he also thinks he's a race car driver, which is just cute.

This guy is talking like it's some big mystery as to why 360 games, even multi-platform releases on the PS3 as well, consistently do better.
It's really not such a secret, the reason is twofold. One, more 360s owned than PS3s, and two, the 360 versions just tend to preform better and have less issues.

Well, smart PC gamers don't upgrade until their system can't operate with new games. I built mine in 2007 and it's just now becoming obsolete when playing new games. The stuff I need to put it update just put it at about $400 dollars. Not bad.

I'll just point out that like the current Xbox 360 setup and Windows 7, Microsoft got them both right, eventually.

It's like two people working within the same company arguing their 'boss' is better, when at the end of the day, Bill Gates is still getting richer.

Consoles are those things that made 2 good Viva Pinata games and then have nothing of value since.

VIVA PINATA 3 PLEASE! *holds out hand and makes a grabbing motion*

Word. I build PC's by necessity about as often as I buy new consoles.

Most of the time its just the urge to build something new for any other time, rarely necessary.
