*Alarm blazes, men run in an out of doors.*

This will never work. Asking humans to stop arguing and warring might as well be asking us to stop breathing. It's in our nature. We want everyone to agree with what we think, and we think that anyone who doesn't agree is wrong.

Great, an elitist.

OT: That was a beautiful piece you wrote, but people won't stop fighting.

It is, but it's just too damn hard! You have to tweak the systems and get the boards and download the patches¹ and all that jazz. I want to be able to put a disc in a thingy and be playing a game in less than ten seconds, so I stick to consoles.

¹Alas, even this pleasure may be denied to us in the future.

I like the concept of the thread, but I disagree with your ideas. PS3 the least creative? LBP, trine, and Flower beg to differ.

Sure is. And maybe if you guys paid for your games once in a while you might find they put out new exclusive titles for it made by real companies. :O

You are trying to stop an internet pissing contest amongst reclusive nerdy and scared shut-in who fell the need to fight on the internet using anonymity as a shield because they have nothing in their own lives worthwhile enough to fight for to work towards by posting a "let's just agree" thread on a website that already tries to weed out the kind of people who do stubbornly hold on to a ignorant notion of total console superiority. (whoo, that's a long sentence!) I think it's impossible to ever stop the console wars and I think that the best we can do is ignore them and let them die in some far off corner as the Escapist seems to try and do.

Edit: Also, the wii is fun and unique. It markets to a new and untapped market of potential gamers. It also is trying something new and injecting some life into the standard notion of video games. The PS3 is a powerhouse that can do some awesome graphical and computing things. The x-box 360 has a strong support for an online community and networking. They are all good and market to a separate audience. (Why can't we be friends?)

A fine post indeed, but ultimately futile. Gamers are a competitive breed. The console wars that break out every generation satisfy an innate desire to assert dominance over others. If we didn't have console wars, gamers might put that energy towards something constructive, and we can't have that.

360 games are more creative than PS3 games? I think that a metaphor has been stretched too far somewhere.

There are no winners in a console war. Unless there are, I don't know, or care really.
Mass Effect, Fable 2 (I said creative, not good), Crackdown, and so on. I see what you're saying though. While it's more available for creativity, that doesn't mean it isn't proving grounds for an endless supply greyish-brown space marine fps games. Again, it's the 'in between' console.
PS3 has Valkyria Chronicles, Flower, Folklore with titles such as Heavy Rain and Last Guardian coming up. It's not like the exclusive games are noticeably less creative, for some people the creativity on show is more impressive.
Exactly, but from the perspective of the makers, that's not as creative as it is technical. I wasn't implying that PS3 was completely bereft of creativity, only that Xbox 360 is a warmer environment for it to become available, and the Wii even more so, while the PS3 is shut tight in graphics. PS3 innovation is more of little details; sweat on the character is actual beads, not part of the skin for example.

Thank you.

Xbox 360 = Steak
Ps3 = Salad
Wii = Cake
Strangely, this may have been the smartest thing ever said.
In relation to the console wars, at least.

I will admit that better development tools will save you time on implementation that you can use on iteration but after that you have lost me.

Z0MG XBOXZ PWNZ PS3!?!!!111!!!!!11

now the troll is out of me, i got to admit, console wars are mostly between the xbox and ps3, the wii, i have to admit and alot of people do as well, it sucks. but that is my opinion. i dont have a ps3, so to me, the xbox is far better, but a ps3 is on my to buy list and is still worth playing despite all the flame wars about it. no matter what happens, microsoft, nintendo and sony could call a truce with each other, there will always be the group of dicks complaining and pointing fingers :p

I agree 100%. But fanboyism has been happening ever since there was more than one system, the Atari 2600. When there was only the NES is was as quite as it was with the 2600. But that unity among gamers was ill fated and short lived. There was a war brewing on the horizon. Sega was coming to eat Nintendo's lunch. Forever after the wars of the fanboys has raged illogically over and over again as the generations of consoles have passed. These wars shall last until there are no longer video games.

Luckily I have all 3 consoles. But sometimes too much choice is a bad thing, because I can never decide on what to play. Then when I decide, I find myself thinking I'd rather be playing something else.

Well, I only have a Wii out of those three. The motion-sensitive controls are cool when they match the game [like swinging a sword for zelda, ETC] but when they put it in the game for no explained reason it's kinda dumb.

Not to start a whole new discussion but I've got both the handheld systems of today, the PSP [mine] and the DS [my bro's]. I'll say this:

The PSP is a good buy, but before hand look into it's games and make a list so that if you beat a story mode and don't have the heart to replay the story mode, you've got some other games to look forward too. But all the games are usually at least 20 bucks, so choose carefully each time!

The DS is nice, there's plenty of games out there for just about every interest, and the touch screen is definitely the coolest part about it. One of the best side-scrollers I've ever played was Prince of Persia Fallen King for the DS, and the controls was the touch screen, which made it really cool. The games are usually less expensive, but there might not be "The One Game" that you'll love forever. Not usually...

Xbox 360 = Steak
Ps3 = Salad
Wii = Cake
PS3= fries

salad is yucky :p
Not necessarily...

Deliciousness aside, anyone with sense will agree with you OP. The problem is, the people with common sense aren't the ones who need to listen to you. It is like this with every subject it seems. You will have console wars as long as there are idiot fanboys and children who feel a need to justify their choice. Ignore them, that is all you can do unforunately.

Also, don't confuse a troll of that level with us elitists. Elitism is way different than trolling like a dipshit.

The PC Engine is a console, your huge box of bits sub-optimally glued together with Windows 7 isn't.

My iPod Touch is more of a console than your PC.

Boo.
