Firstly, I don't know if this is the correct subforum (or even forum!) to be posting on but I'm guessing here it'll get a fairly wide audience and maybe someone will have some advice, plus it's now got to the stage where I am tearing my hair out. However if you think it could be better solved elsewhere then please link me!

SO...

I have an Xbox 360 with a Wireless Network Adapter.

Back home I have a Netgear DG834G router.

While at University my Xbox can happily connect wirelessly to our network there with no problems. The router is the free one supplied by o2 (customised Thomson TG585n).

However back home it will only connect to xbox live when plugged in to the router via an Ethernet cable. When trying to find wireless networks (yes the Ethernet cable has been taken out!) it can find the network and detect the network security type, hurrah! However once I have put the password in (or connected if I set the router to have no security) it says not connected and all the IP and DNS settings are 0.0.0.0 and are set to be automatically acquired.

I've tried following guides to manually input values, I've reset it more times than I care to mention, I've disabled the router pin, I've tried different channels....

Have I missed anything obvious? Why does it refuse to work?

Any replies greatly appreciated!

How close to the source are you? I had a similar situation where my xbox could see the network, but it couldn't connect because the signal was too weak.

It doesn't work on the TV in my room that's a fair way from the router... and it doesn't work on the TV right next to the router :/

Better yet, does your router transmit in wireless-b,g,a or n?
The adapter for the 360 is g by default, and I don't think (not 100%, but pretty sure) that it doesn't work with wireless-a.

Wireless is transmitting on B and G modes. Will try transmitting on G only.

EDIT: No change I'm afraid!

Just use the Ethernet when at your house and use the adapter when your somewhere else. It will save you alot of the hassle

B & G shouldn't give you an issue, must be something else. Alright this may be obvious, and I'm willing to bet you've tried it already, but have you tried resetting your router or modem?

If all else fails, you might be able to get it work entering the info manually. Probably a pain in the ass, but if it works, it works.

Snooty, I realise that this may solve a lot of hassle but it does mean that I take up the main TV whenever I want to play anything online which is hardly ideal. Trailing Ethernet table 15+ metres also not going to happen.

Necator, yeah unfortunately no cigar there and I have reset things in every combination possible I'm pretty sure!

I've tried manually entering it as according to solution #5 of this page (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978976/en-gb?sd=xbox) but again... no luck... should I bother trying again?

EDIT: Yeah, that's not working either.

I've also tried settings up ICS from my laptop (I don't even know if that's possible since I'm only connecting to my router wirelessly via laptop) however ICS refuses to start even after following this guide:
