The reason it was banned is because apparently they used footage from the PS3 version of the game, and as a result it was called 'misleading'. Square Enix say that 'the footage was taken from a cinematic cutscene and was compressed for broadcasting purposes' Although they admit that it was played back from a PS3. This is just a quick summary of what happened, the rest is in the link here

To be honest, I think it is pretty sad to use another consoles version of a game to promote your own. And apparently nothing else of importance is happening that the Yahoo! team is currently aware of.

Personally I think it's stupid. They were using CG's in the advertisement. The only difference in the 360 version is that they were compressed to fit on the disk. They just used the uncompressed versions on the advert, as you would. You aren't going to compress a video when you don't need to, especially when advertising something. It's staggering really, 90% of the adverts on British TV do far worse things. Using photoshop to make their skin look clearer if it's a facial product. Sprucing up the food and getting well trained chefs to make it look pretty and delicious when advertising food.

If they did use gameplay, and not CG footage, I agree it would have been a sad state. It was to be expected though, considering it was a last minute port to the 360. Although the quality of the videos was avoidable had they used a better codec to compress. I think Red Dead Redemption and Rockstar are far worse, they supposedly had a team working on the PS3 version along side the 360 version, and yet the port was pretty flawd. Consequently, they didn't show footage of the PS3 version until after release.

Oh wow, the scandal!

Naughty misleading SquareEnix for using the exact same footage of a game for a different console which looks exactly the same (to me at least, I have yet to see conclusive proof one looks better then the other) to advertise for another console.

But I do agree with the OP, Yahoo! News must be on the slowest day it's ever had.

That's a really stupid reason to ban the advert.

Shouldn't they be banning the GoCompare advert for crimes against humanity?

It's not that it looks better, it's just the advertisers didn't want to change discs. [/predictable joke]

Who honestly cares? Moreover, unless the PS3 cutscene and xbox cutscene are played alongside each other, who can honestly tell the difference?

I'm guessing they got taxed for this. It's of a thing the UK has.

Suppose it can't be worse than this... [http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation2/4-/127990/Pop-Idol/Product.html?ptsl=1&ob=Price&fb=0]

To add to my last point, I can see why it could be construed as misleading but...really?

This "news" also featured in the free paper we get on the bus in these parts..I thought it was just them digging up a really old and poorly written story to fill space in the paper.

I wasn't aware FF XIII was even being advertised on tv anymore... As the paper said, I wonder which gamer scrutinised the trailer closely enough to realise the CG was taken from the PS3 version and not the 360 version. Sounds like they may need to venture outside once in a while...

In what respect? PS3 version was flawed, and they didn't show footage of that version till after release because of it.

Completed it on both versions, and although you won't notice the graphical differences unless you sit really close to the tv, the FPS drops and weird bugs were a bit annoying at times.

This is hardly a new thing, most game boxes in the 80s had screenshots from another format.

It's not like they stopped it being shown because of the content but rather have stopped it being shown in that form as it is misleading. I'd rather they didn't use CG/cutscenes in game adverts anyway.

I'd agree with that. I want to see the actual gameplay rather than some CG footage, since that is what you will primarily be doing in the game, playing it.

This is pretty funny. In a sad and pathetic way.

More importantly, though - why the hell are companies using cutscenes in adverts instead of actual gameplay footage? That's the only real misleading going on here.

What does it matter, so long as its footage that is exactly the same on both versions. The only real difference in this case is image quality.

Well that make sense, and i have to agree with you, although i haven't tryed it on a 1080p tv yet,ps3 does have problems when they port stuff directly on to it(weird hardware)
