DISCLAIMER: I know they got rid of it. This was just a thought I had.

I just realised something. If the xbone kept its DRM and required Xbox live to login, you would have to PAY to use a console you already own. That may be the most evil thing in existence. So, if Microsoft were revealed to be talking out of their asses this whole time and included this, what would your reaction be?

No you wouldn't, you don't need Gold to go on xbox live you just need it for multiplayer.
This . They have the free xbox Silver , for those that don't want multiplayer games , so technically the 60$ covers the server costs and maintenance.

Oh, I thought the silver was just a trial sort of thing. But let's say they removed silver and made you pay, what would your reaction be?

There are quite a few things you can't do with only Silver, but the majority of the basic actions can still be done without having Gold. Definitely not a requirement to use XBL, but more of a pass to access all of its content. Silver is like an indefinite Free Trial.

It's really stupid to have to have online and not even being to play it though.
