I might log in 20-60 hours in a single player RPG. But I have logged in 500-1000 hours in games like Super Smash Brothers Melee, Goldeneye, Team Fortress Classic, and Battlefield 2.
Sorry, allow me to rephrase that, games shouldn't be built on multiplayer, then have a bad story stapled on the side with no/little replay value and pretended like they are a selling point.

I wouldn't say that, I fear the Mw2 players/fanboys are about to rip out ur spleen.
I would say that, and I stand by it, I am perfectly safe, I have something that will completely stop all those ASBO's dead, pinned at the gates. "2+2=?"

They will die like being anal probed in "Destroy all Humans" except there will be a huge explosion of sawdust then something peanut sized will fly out of their head.

Yes, I went there.

That's right, because eeeeeeeeeeeveryone can afford to buy a new 360 at the drop of a hat. /sarcasm

These things aren't as cheap as most (wealthy) gamers seem to think. Especially if you're not from America. Everyone else pays extra, except Japan.
I Live in Australia, and the Xbox 360 can be bought at $200 AU at certain periods of the year and $250 for most others. Considering how we get some games for $110-$120AU, you might think that it is a bit of a nice price. Also considering the fact that the console was $600 at release.

*sigh* I thought it was all laggy gay p2p shit anyway? what is there to support? is leaving the tracker server on really that hard?

it's pretty poor, I can only assume that there is NO ONE left using it.

I think CS is a good example for all those halo hype generators to take note of.

and mw2 ppl for that matter. you wanna know WHY people still play it so much?? they play Gun game, a MOD! that's right, a MOD of a MOD. free. please tell me again how mw2 is the future...

I suppose it is if you like throwing your money at everyone. me, all I can think of is that ep of the Simpsons where Milhouse puts 50 quarters into the arcade game just to move one step and have the game go "Game over, please insert 50 quarters"

hell, I'm a games developer, working for a games company but that's still the way I feel.

What a shame. Maybe they'll fix the backwards compatibility for the 360 now.
Unlike on PS3, you can actually play some of the games. They are constantly adding more games to the list of games that are playable. Before you start writing an essay on how the PS3 DOES have backwards compatibility, look up where I live. It doesn't around here.

OT; It's a shame, but it had to happen sooner or later.
With all the tech in a PS3, you'd think you'd be able to get a PS3 emulator from the store

You do know the only reason people still play CS is because you can still download it off of Steam and the CS community kicks ass and supports the game with mods/servers...If it were a console game it would have died off like everything else.

Most PC games last WAAAAAAAAY longer then console versions just because they are on the PC and therefore can be supported by their communities...

So? The only games I think anyone cared about the multiplayer on for the original Xbox were the Halo titles, and even then you still have LAN.

The console has been defunct for FIVE YEARS NOW. It's okay to shut down service for it, especially if hardly anyone is using the service.

Why can't current generation consoles get backwards compatibility right? Some games just don't work on the 360 (I should probably look it up) And I think I'm right in that the old versions of the PS3 had backwards compatibility but the new ones don't? I had to blow £15 on a 360 copy of Blood Money just because my original wouldn't run.

I'm not sure what to think. It's business vs morality. The business has no right to do something that will lose it money, even if it is wrong.

This seems odd, but not really a big deal. Its not like they're going to steal the games from you.
Yeah, they're just stealing a major component of the game from you. No big deal, eh? :p
Yes, actually. It really isn't. They have no profit to make to run these servers for these games. It just makes business sense.
Right, but are you a consumer or a stockholder? What makes sense and what is right aren't always the same thing.

I suppose there are a lot of corporate apologists on here though. I'll never understand that.

And why exactly do they charge their consumers a subscription fee then if they won't even keep their services running? What exactly are people getting ripped off for?
I don't understand, would you have them continue to run it out of pocket? Just for you?

Dunno if it's been said, but as of last year, Halo 2 was still in the top 5 of XBL games, despite being an original XBox game.

It's also the reason for certain restrictions in the expansion of XBL, since one of the biggest games can't be fixed to work with any additions.

I reckon they've discontinued the backwards compatability too I think. Tried an update and nothing happened at all. Now I'll never finish DOOM 3.

You'd be surprised, don't forget the PS2 still hasn't been discontinued yet and Shattered Memories was also released on the system along with the Wii.

So is this going to give us a larger friends list now, or what?

I remember people complained about reaching the limit to their friends list on XBox Live on the 360 and Microsoft said that it had to do with the old XBL system and changing it would make it impossible for people to still play Halo 2.

I can understand why some people who still play original Xbox games online might be upset. At the same time, can anyone say that they are actually surprised?

You know, it would be nice if Microsoft did a Sega and allowed their xbox fans to make their own servers for xbox live via an emulator or something.

But alas, Moneysoft wouldn't do anthing nice for their customers unless they profited from it.

(Its a shame, as I recently got a load of old xbox games that would've been cool to play online, (if I could find the players!! XD))

Fortunately a lot of old xbox games had local multiplayer, so its not so huge a deal.

But when the 360 servers close down, it will be a much bigger shame, as hardly any games these days have local multiplayer.

I mean, Left 4 Dead 2, is designed so that most of the game is online, without Live, you could only play offline campaign with the lame bots, and 2 player co-op.
For this game you can use LAN, but again, hardly any 360 games have LAN support neither.

This could leave a void.

(But Micr$soft will likely have backwards compatibility with the 360 on its next console, (but I reckon ol' xbox will not, (as its only software emulation)).

(Also anyone know how to cancel an old xbox live account, I made one in order to get Phantasy Star Online to work on my old xbox, (as it needs one to play it offline), and now I keep getting automated messages on my email saying their gonna charge me soon, (but the microsoft website doesn't see the card I used as a payment choice)
(Again its Microsofts fault on this part, as they didn't update their xbox emulator to support this game...))

I was completely unaware that XBL was even still being provided for the original Xbox. After all, if you liked the Xbox, I don't see any reason why you wouldn't have bought a 360 by now.
Pretty much this.
I honestly wasn't aware that XBL worked for the original xbox.

Wait... internet still works for the PS2 right?! I haven't used my PS2 since I got a PS3 and 350.
