Okay, I just got on Xbox Live for the first time people. I have about a month of Xbox Live Gold Membership time left and I'll be getting a new hard drive next week (the old one is just stuffed).

What should I do or see?

P.S- My gamertag is JimboRK if any of you are interested.

You gonna renew the subscription after the months up?

I'd say get CoD4 if you haven't already, that's the big 'un at the moment. Also, you definitely need to get Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved from the Arcade, one of the best titles on the console imo.

Other games of note: Gears, PGR4, Team Fortress 2 and Halo 3 are all enjoyable.

As for features... Not sure what Gold-specific things there are to do actually!

rsv is a great game if you like tactical shooters....i wouldnt reccommend buying it though, id say rent it because rsv2 is coming out soon.

Also, Cod4 is another great game, but it all depends on what kind of games you like.

I like shooters but I suck at them. There's something about running into a room and being shot in the head over and over again that just keeps me coming back for more!

I got this subscription free from Microsoft after they repaired my console, so I'm taking this month to decide whether to pay any more money for Gold service, or just using silver. I've also got to get some points so that I can download Psychonauts and possible Fahrenheit.

Given that the only distinction for Gold accounts is to be able to play online, you're looking at getting an online game.

The most active right now are Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, and Gears of War. Those are your best bets for getting into some decent games.

In terms of getting stuff off marketplace, Rez HD, Puzzle Quest, and Omega Five are all worth buying. Be sure to check out the XNA game demos as well, especially The Dishwasher.

If you haven't played HL2 then you owe it to yourself to play The Orange Box. If you want some multiplayer action then go for Call of Duty 4 or Halo 3.

Whoever wants to add me as a friend is more than welcome too, unless you're a dickface, then no.

Anyhow, I have Halo3 and the Orange Box. I got bored with Halo 3, but I've never played it in multiplayer mode before, and I've never laid a finger on TF2.

You're missing out, chum. Halo 3's fourplayer co-op mode in story and a number of other modes such as Rocket Race and Forge are what really make the game. As to TF2, I don't have orange box yet, but it certainly seems to inspire a great deal of love around here. Waste not, want not, if you have it you should go nuts with it.

My fiancee and I basically only got Halo 3 for the multiplayer after playing the beta, I never played 2 and only finished Halo 1 in mid-2006 shortly before getting my 360. Try out the multiplayer while you can, it's great. COD4 as well, though the learning curve is a little sharper; However if you love being headshotted over and over again, go for it.

I'm very happy with the Gold service, and think the $50 for a year is well worth it.

I think the marketplace has a good selection of classic games and add-ons, never had any major problems with multiplayer(lag, etc.), and the repeated rumors of streaming Netflix subscriptions coming down the pipe is definitely something to look forward to.

I know I may be alone on this, but the arcade games I have downloaded and played the most are Smash TV, and Discs of Tron... oh man did I spend a whole lot of money in the arcade on that one as a kid.
Psychonauts is a def download if you don't have it already.

Psychonauts for sure. It's a classic.

I'll lobby for RezHD, as it's my current addition; at least check out the free demo and see if it's for you. It's stupid-fun if you already have a hi-def display and surround sound, and it's $10.

You already have Halo 3, so peek around at the Forge-ed maps folks have made. Especially keep an eye on the Favorites [http://www.bungie.net/Online/BungieFavorites.aspx] hand-picked by Bungie staff from the community; if you've linked your gamertag to Bungie.net, you can even pick maps/films/games from the web site and automagically have the variant pushed to your Xbox the next time you fire up Halo 3. You may or may not want the current map pack, but if you do be advised it'll likely be available for free soon. And online co-op rawks if you throw in some skull modifiers to keep it challenging.

You may want to have a look at Gears of War if you haven't already; it's had some serious staying power on Live's "top 10" played list. (Hasn't it had a price cut already, too?) And it has online co-op too.

I haven't played CoD4 multiplayer yet, but it is rivalling Halo 3 for most-played so it's likely worth checking out. (Me, well, I've kinda dropped off the multiplayer lately; too busy Achievement-grinding and trying to relearn how to not suck.)

You should definitely give Worms a try as well - it's great for multiplayer, both local and online.
