Xbox media player formats/file types

Hi
What file types can be played by an Xbox360 ?

I have a bunch of old family videos that I want to play on Xmax. The only player I'll have access to is an Xbox 360 (don't know witch version). I can convert them anything, that not a problem. But I want to avoid converting them into a .vob/standard DVD format.

There are USB ports, can I just stick a USB key and play whatever .mpg, .mkz, .mp4 is on it ?
Can I burn the files, as files, on a DVD ?

You should be fine running the files off of a USB stick. The Xbox should be able to play any digital media formats at this point. It'd be more of a problem if it didn't. I'll come back if you need more help.
