Xbox One - A Little Disappointed

Hello everyone, new member to the forums here. First off, I want to start by saying that I own all of the consoles so this is not me bashing any one system. I just happened to look at my shelf of games today. When looking at the 4 Xbox One games I remembered buying each one due to them being exclusive titles. Of those 4 games, now 3 of them are no longer exlusive and I just have Forza as my exclusive game. This isn't to say that I didn't enjoy Ryse, Dead Rising 3, or Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare. I guess I just feel a little slighted. I just wanted to know if others felt this way too.

It is almost to the point where I feel like only using the X1 for first party exlusive titles. I mean if the PS4 (I have a high end PC as well) is going to continue to have better versions of the same game, what is the incentive to buy on X1? Multiplayer is not a deciding factor for me, so PSN vs Xbox Live is really a non-issue.

So what does everyone think?

Get a Wii U? That's what I'm doing. I know Nintendo's games won't be found anywhere else. Most of the titles coming to PS4 and the Xbone will be on PC. I just don't see the point of these consoles right now. Maybe near the end of their life cycles, when they each have a solid library of exclusive titles built up.

Well I'll have to be honest without getting to fan boy warfare ( I'm too old for such things).

You said you were looking at only 4 games in your library. That says it all my friend. Quite frankly the Xbox One and the PS4 are both in the same content drought. I always have bought a Sony product first as I have been an owner of both the PS1,PS2, and PS3 and therefore I waited until I found a PS4 that was below the retail price being sold. To this day after I have bought it, it is gathering a sheet of dust from under use because the only thing I found worthy of getting was Kill Zone: Shadow Fall... and I got bored with it because I know if I finish it too soon, there won't be much else to play until later into 2015.

Why they even thought that streaming PS3 games was a good idea. What? 2.99 for 4 hours to play something I already have for the PS3? ( Ok. What ever)

I've found more replay value on my PC and Steam than anything else. The bad part is by the time PS4 picks up, and how the tech goes to leaps and bounds within a period of 1 year, by the time there will be a stack of games they'll be selling the PS5.....and at that point... it may as well be a PC unless we take into consideration of the Oculus.

So you are not alone my friend, in the end, your best bet is stick with your high end PC. I wasn't a PC connoisseur until I decided to build my own... now I've been totally turned as to the diversity PC games bring to the table, particularly if there is a very talented Indie group.

Both consoles need to step their game up.

Well said Miren. I'm a gamer at heart, but I guess I didn't expect this kind of shift this generation. I'm not exactly sure what MS is thinking. I suppose we have Sunset Overdrive and the Halo Masterchief collection to look forward this year. I'm also a big Madden fan, but I'll probably get that on PS4. The next big exclusive on PS4 to me is the Order, so you are definately right - a drought for sure. They do need to step up their game.

To Dead Century - I do have a Wiiu as well. They have been off to a slow start, but like you said, those are exclusives that you can count on. They just have a certain quality to them too that you can't find anywhere else. Donkey Kong Country Freeze has been a blast so far.

Luckily (as mentioned already), the PC is as strong as ever, and steam has been great.

Yet another reason not to buy a new console yet.

This is why I held off so long last time around. I didn't buy a PS3 until 2011. By then I knew exactly what exclusives were available and there was a fair list of games for the thing that I actually wanted.

Makes more sense to me than buying early and then crossing your fingers and hoping something comes along to make your purchase worthwhile.

Well, unless you have enough cash sitting around that you can just buy all the consoles and a good PC and just not give a shit. But I don't have enough money to be able to justify that expense to myself.

I more or less expected this gen to be a rocky one, given that it's now the time to ramp requirements up and it didn't deliver a whole lot but I'm not exactly asking for the world on a silver platter like some would.

I haven't really gotten myself a current gen yet but when I do it;s going to be the Wii U first, the XB1 sometime next year and the PS4 probably 4 years down the line, their E3 really didn't show me anything I'd want and nothing I'll miss out on.

I'm more for the Wii U for their upcoming titles like Bayo 2 (plus the first game for free), Splatoon, Mario Kart 8 etc, the XB1 for MCC, Halo 5, Sunset Overdrive, Scalebound, Quantum Break, I'm not really in that "I hope they come to PC for one less reason to get an XB1" boat, I've got a mid build rig that I'm not even proud of because of how it went and though I do like my RTS and other PC titles I am not fond of having to sink more money into it just to play everything on max, kinda why I more or less favour handhelds and consoles like I used to game on beforehand.

(inb4 someone lectures me on sliders, please kindly go away thank you)

Also I could have sworn we had a thread very identical to this at least a month ago with almost the same title.

Microsoft has a history of letting even big exclusives go to PC/Sony, while Sony/Nintendo can retain their exclusives (the perception on Sony may have changed for some people due to the existence of the likes of Console exclusive Indies...but those were never proclaimed as real exclusives anyway...because you know they were on PC first).

To put it all bluntly there is little point in actually getting an Xbone at this point. Forza, Gears, Halo....Fable? Are pretty much the only things you can be sure will remain Xbone exclusives and even than Microsoft might decide to shoot their feet some more. Sony and Nintendo on the other hand not only have more, better (opinion), and more varied first party exclusives, but they also have a cadre of third party developers who by choice are exclusive to the Sony/Nintendo platform and have for some been for generations.

A PC + PS4 + Wii U is the best set up as a result. A lot of Microsoft's exclusives will end up on PC so you're missing very few games (though if you're a big fan of them than it may still be worth getting an Xbone).

Yes.

I think if you are someone whom can't decide whether you want to buy a new console yet.... I would say wait. I bought one and... I really don't use it right now. There's nothing to you us it with! I'm not a sports gamer and neither am I too hot about COD... and COD Ghosts was beaten when I got it for the PS3. A remake of " The Last of us?" Why would you spend money on that if not just to play it with crisper graphics and a few add ons? I don't see the point if you already played it on the PS3. Now that was one hell of an exclusive.

Come to think of it, I also bought a PS3 well into 2011 I think myself --- and by that time --- well there were plenty of pickings. I guess when you have the up-to-date stuff, your stuck waiting and watching.

Man, just watch the 360 exclusives for the first two years... A lot of those were TIMED EXCLUSIVES and after those years only halo and Gears. Look I like my xbox, but if you want exclusives on the long run go for PlayStation. Yes Nintendo has a lot of exclusives, but really nintendo has ONLY exclusives, so maybe a PS4 for multiplatforms and exclusives and a WiiU for nintendo games.

The only reason I want an Xbox One is for Halo at the moment. Granted I am not super into getting PS4 either, but it would be a better choice in comparison. I would just wait on getting a current system until it has a few games you want, that's usually what I do. Admittedly I will get Nintendo systems early on since I know the exclusives I want will come, but I always need more persuasion for the other two. If you like Nintendo games I think the Wii U has enough games coming to justify a purchase, but if you don't then I would wait for a good six months to shell out the money for one of, or both a PS4 or Xbox One.

I went into Game the other day with my partner, intending to sell my WiiU (My partner doesn't like Nintendo and we hadn't touched it in months) and to purchase a PS4 with the last of us and GTA5 but after learning that you have to pay online for separate accounts, the controllers were poor in comparison to the xbox, for example the grips of the analogue sticks degrade quite quickly we was completely put off.

Also we thought GTA5 was released already on the next gen console and was just not on PC, well we were wrong and well we ended up buying an xbox1, quite impressed with it to be honest, the UI is a bit confusing and not as simplistic as I would like but I really love the new controllers, being that they are not much different form the old ones. My problem is there is just not many games at all and I just feel a bit depressed about the lack of games :-(

btw I'm new to the forums, not new to the site but I would just like to say Hey all, glad to be part of these forums and I hope to participate constructively to the discussions.

With your partner? Meaning you'd be gaming on the same console? Than you'd only need to pay for 1 account, your partner by being on the same console would be able to play online, and would also get access to the games on Plus as well though obviously your account would have to download them first.
Yeah the degradation is a bit bad, I think I cut one of my controllers with my nails so I'm being careful now.

So...you didn't get the PS4 for the reasons stated...and than got a Xbone? I thought you were going to say you got a PC which would at least make sense, but this makes zero.

Hello, enjoy you time here and don't let certain people bother you.

Eh, I think my purchase has been worth it. I've enjoyed the big, full price titles (your Titanfalls, Ryses, etc) but I've spent quite a lot of time on the smaller titles on the One as well. Crimson Dragon, Guacamelee, Peggle, Killer Instinct alongside stuff Strike Suit Zero, Sixty Second Shooter Prime and Strider as well.

It doesn't make sense I know xD
and turns out you need live for each account! Also I have already got a PC but its MY PC!!!
Well the UI seems to get more confusing, obviously its only beneficial if you have kinect for the voice commands.

Thanks for the welcome, and I hope people don't bother me too much
I joined this forum in hopes of finding the kinder side of the gamer community since the steam forums
are driving me crazy, which I will be making a post about at some point.

No I think you'll be fine as I remember them touting other accounts on the system having access to their subscription service as a big feature on the lead up to the launch of the Xbone...something which Plus had from its inception.

This being Microsoft I had to make sure and I found a thread saying you needed gold for each individual account...I looked for more up to date threads and found that they do allow "gold sharing" BUT only on the Xbone because apparently whenever Microsoft takes something from the competition instead of copying it completely or improving it they instead decide make it a lame knock off version.

I looked deeper and found something they are/have discontinued called family sharing which was a $99.99 membership that gave up to 4 people access to a gold account giving a "saving" of $100.01... but its gone know to make more money/force people to get Xbones...bloody hell I knew Microsoft were good...but wow.
How could a company that could make marks pay for a practically featureless gold for 10 years still not make profits? What chance would they have if they made actual nice business decisions?

...

...

...

Sorry about that, Microsoft leave me in wonder sometimes (not these days though). Anyway you got to remember that your experience is ultimately decided in how you take things.

The same thing happened with previous generations of Microsoft consoles from what I remember and made a post mentioning it in another thread recently. They tend to have a few good exclusives then have a few series that will remain exclusive in a few years when all the decent early exclusives go elsewhere. With many game project budgets costing insane amounts and the need to make that money back, there will still be multiplatform games releasing. Most generations from what I know had similar droughts when they start up and no one knows how to effectively use the tech.

I mean compare Rayman M (one of the first games I got with my PS2):

with God of War II which came out near the end of the PS2 lifecycle:
