Pre-order bonuses for consoles now? Really? Still, I suppose it may have it's benefits. At least it'll help identify who needs to be sterilised for the sake of the future of humanity, just by checking what kind of Xbone controller they own.
aaah, but feast your eyes on this ---> "An exclusive achievement will also come with the package" o_0 #facepalm

I think I can guess the name of the achievement.

Of course. And all video games are $8.

Oh wait, that's only when Steam sales are happening, and that computer is only on the biggest sale day of the year. Plus, the price is higher with the OS which it didn't calculate for some reason. And all of this assuming that all of the parts will perfectly work together with no compatibility issues.

I pre-built mine at a more reasonable time. It was $600 with discounts. That's a LOT more realistic.
Not particularly. That list only subtracted $15 for a sale. Given how the price was so low anyway I think that's perfectly fine. And they paid for fancy RAM. Plus Everyone with a PC probably already has:

1. An OS.
2. A screen.
3. A case.
4. A PSU.
5. A Hard Drive
6. An Optical Drive.

$500 is realistic for a cheap gaming PC. This one is particularly so. I wouldn't get it because I like to play on high, while this one's integrated graphics might not cut medium.

Still, with $100 breathing room you can split it into discrete graphics/cpu and probably still be under budget. I've got another rig somewhere on here. I'll post that too.

And yeah, the games are often incredibly cheap if you wait a bit. They don't stubbornly stick at their retail price for months and months after release.

EDIT:

This is a really good cheap gaming PC:

CASE- Bitfenix Prodigy £75
CPU- Intel Core i3 3220 £90
MOBO- Asus P8H77-I Motherboard M-ITX £80
RAM- From Crucial £35
COOLING- £0
GPU- GTX 660 £150
PSU- Corsair CXM 600W £60
HDD- Seagate Barracuda 500GB 7200rpm £40
OS- Windows 8 64-bit OEM £70

If you take off the stuff they're likely to already have...

HD- 40
OS- 70
Case- 75

It comes down to £415. £15 less than the UK retail price.

And that's without dropping spec.

EDIT: Sure, the one in the picture is pretty bottom-end, but you can do it. That's the point. The Xbox one is terrible value for money at this price range.

Exchange rates?

How do they work?

How does $499 translate to £430?
And remember, the much advertised TV stuff like ESPN coverage and all that other bollocks was American exclusive, so Europeans are paying MORE MONEY for a WORSE PRODUCT.

Someone in Microsoft is taking the piss. If this product doesn't fail spectacularly then there is no hope for consumers, we've signed our own death warrants for our consumer rights.

Here's an image to spead everywhere that I think perfectly sums up this whole Xbone affair.

$499 bucks... isn't that how much the PS3 debuted at?

And wasn't it TRASHED for having a ridiculously high price?

Hooooooooooooo boy...
The PS3 launched with 20GB drive for $499 and a model with a 60GB drive for $599.

Poor Microsoft! Who knew that the Xbox One would become so Infamous before it was even launched? Microsoft established itself as a veritable God of War with the Xbox 360 but their newest console is taking a Journey into truly Uncharted territory and it has been met with heavy Resistance from gamers. Truly the internet collective will be sad to see The Last of Us Xbox supporters as we jump ship to the PS3, Wii U or even PC. Some are even saying that Microsoft has caused the greatest shit storm in gaming history. Me? Well, I'm quite certain this whole situation is nothing more than some Heavy Rain.

I'm sorry... subliminal what?
Very well done mate, I tip my hat to you *tips hat*

I think it was $599. And yeah, we all know how well that went down.

It's even more laughable that the UK price is £430 ish, maybe Microsoft are using out-of-date exchange rates but I don't think that adds up. Just imagine how much it's going to cost in Australia. Poor bastards :(
My USD to AUD tax estimation says it's probably around $800-$900, their just jealous of us :p. So another reason (ontop of much better reasons) not to get the XBone, no problem M$, Sony gets it :)

Retailers have listed the xbone as $600 here in Australia.

I sincerely hope the ps4 is cheaper, they have my money for certain if it is.

And people are pre-ordering it. Gaaaah...

I'm somewhat cheered to see, however, that there are at least people on the Amazon forums who are pointing out the same things most everyone here is incensed about.

Microsoft was able to get the price so low because the NSA is covering part of the manufacture cost for each Xbox One console.

Further details? What more could they possibly announce to make the Xbone any less desirable?
It's really an automated turret from Aperture Labs and Bill Gates is the real Cave Johnson.

I'm not excited enough to pay full price. I'll either get a good deal on a bundle or I'm going to wait until there's a price drop. $499 is too steep for something I'm not fawning over, especially if I can't use my current 360 to pay for it (like I did my original Xbox to my 360).

I am kind of excited to finally get a Kinect though. My sister has one, and it's pretty cool, but I wouldn't use it enough to justify actually buying it standalone.

As for pricing: remember that components and inflation has changed a lot in this 10 years since the last cycle. so dont expect to buy at 200. of course their exchange rates are something a chimp would be too smart to come up with.

still, this to be expected, and the amount of peopel pre-ordering this is normal. on this forum everyone hates Xbone, but in reality most gamers dont really care. brand loyalty is a strong thing.

Amazon is now listing the Xbox One with a release date of November 30, 2013. As mentioned above, the price is $499, but with this page now open those of you itching to purchase one of these things can put your money down on a pre-order right this very minute.
Oh, yes, that's it, PLEASE reward Microsoft for turning games into something I can never actually buy ever again, only rent, by linking everyone to the pre-orders page.

It's nice to know that while Yahtzee and Jim Sterling actually care about consumers, there are others on the Escapist staff willing to keep on shilling and cheerleading for the corporations no matter how bad things get.

You know what $500 (plus extra for the live account and extra controller) can get you... A decent PC.
Great, and then you have another machine running Windows 8 XD
Price point seems fair honestly, I'm not interested in the system until or if the flaws with DRM are sorted out though. The whole day one controller logo looks a bit cheap though, cool idea but the execution looks rather crap, at least make it look better.

If all that was keeping a person from purchasing an Xbox One was the availability of a link... then god help us. It's a source, anyone interested in purchasing an Xbox One here will most likely already know of the Amazon.com website, anyone else who read this article would have had no problem finding it either...
