Even though I've no current plans of getting an Xbox one, good job Microsoft on managing to sell that many.

Now, if their comment really was that those sold to consumers, then that's much better than I suspected. If those are just the number of consoles they sold to companies like Best Buy, Amazon, Gamestop, etc., then it's misleading. Every game store I walk into had dozens of XBO's stacked high with an empty PS4 section (until a couple weeks ago).
They make the distinction between consumers and retailers quite well in this paragraph. Come on Lightknight, I'm sure you noticed this part of the article.Over 3 million Xbox One consoles were sold to consumers in 13 countries before the end of 2013.....selling out throughout the holidays at most retailers worldwide
Did you not read the article or something? Unless you think Microsoft is lying and actually only reporting the numbers shipped to retailers. In which case who says Sony is telling the truth? They could have told everyone the retailers numbers.Ed130 said:Currently people a questioning whether the numbers sold is to actual people or to the re-sellers like Amazon and Wall-Mart, as for me judging by the number of Xbones floating around in stores (that sell them) the latter is more likely.Gearhead mk2 said:...how? Really, how? I legitimately do not understand how this happened. The god-awful PR, the invasive anti-consumer practices, the obscenely huge price tag, the schizophrenic multimedia focus, and the dull and micro-transaction filled games should have made it sink like a stone. Are there really that many people desperate for an Xbone?
Its like how publishers go on about units shipped but with more lying.
Because PS4's marketting wasn't a catastrophe and Negative news leads. And 3 million Xbones sold is negative news so it leads over the positive news that the lesser of two evils is in the lead.kiri2tsubasa said:So PS4 has sold about 4 million...and no one covered that, at all? There's a few very interesting things to be drawn from this, but I'll let you draw them yourself. At any rate, Xbox one does look to have sold 3M units.
Yeah, especially since VGChartz tends to be off on their numbers by about 200-500k units as I've seen. Whether it's up or down though I don't know for sure, but I do know that Microsoft have been able to keep the Xbox One in better stock than the PS4.lacktheknack said:So, I was just on VGChartz for a few reasons, and I saw this.

In the industry in this day and age it's better to assume that the people are lying, and that's mainly because they need to make their hardware seem like it's selling or doing amazing. Remember the whole thing with Call of Duty Ghosts in which Activision tried to make it seem like they sold $1 billion dollars worth of Ghosts, and in many cases the fact that it was sold to retailers and not consumers was not made apparent until later in some articles, or omitted entirely in some of the ones I saw.Saucycarpdog said:Unless you think Microsoft is lying and actually only reporting the numbers shipped to retailers. Neronium answered for me but I also have to add in this is based off physical evidence with surplus stocks of Xbones hanging around stores, this could be good distribution but stories as well as Amazon's purchase ranking don't paint a pretty picture.Saucycarpdog said:Did you not read the article or something? I do remember that. I personally loved it, as it showed how desperate Activision was to stay number 1. =PNeronium said:In the industry in this day and age it's better to assume that the people are lying, and that's mainly because they need to make their hardware seem like it's selling or doing amazing. Because Sony haven't officially announced any numbers, whereas Microsoft has. Pretty obvious.kiri2tsubasa said:So PS4 has sold about 4 million...and no one covered that, at all? Why?lacktheknack said:So, I was just on VGChartz for a few reasons, and I saw this.

Well, internet moaners and boycotters represent a small percentage of the actual market. Most people who bought these things don't even visit sites like this oneDragonbums said:Y'all did a dang good job "boycotting" the Xbox One folks.
Just wanted to reiterate this as noone else commented on it.Josetorr said:Your forgetting one Key element from prior console releases ...Lightknight said:The reason why I don't think this is consumers is because consumers don't tell Sony or Microsoft when they sell a console. The only information they really have is how many orders they get.
The Day 1 Download,
Microsoft knows EXACTLY how many XBOX Ones went to Consumers (especially after Christmas Morning)
Why would you continue with a boycott, when the threat of the boycott worked for the most part, and the company bent to the public's demands?Dragonbums said:Y'all did a dang good job "boycotting" the Xbox One folks.
That's all down to individual publisher expectations. For example. Atlus sold 800k copies of Dragon's Crown across 2 platforms, and that was considered a success.Kuala BangoDango said:I just find it funny that a single game, Tomb Raider, sells 3 million copies in 1 month and is considered a failure while an entire gaming system sells 3 million over nearly 2 months and is a smashing success. I guess the profit margins on consoles must be so much better than that of games.
Well, I knew two people who literally said they don't even give a fuck.james.sponge said:Well, internet moaners and boycotters represent a small percentage of the actual market. I think we should take into account that sony is not capable of producing same amount of console as MS, they are kinda poor at the momentlunavixen said:And yet I can still find Xbones everywhere here but I can't get a PS4 for another few months due to a lack of supply and an order list a mile long
