Depends what kinda games you want. I went with PS3, but there's some cool stuff on Xbox 360 I'm missing out on, and I hear the newer 360s don't break as often. (My PS3 actually died a few months after I got it.) Both are pricey purchases, so take your time and research it. But it really depends what you wanna play, so check out their exclusives.
For me, it was:
Little Big Planet, MGS4 (sans cutscenes), Disgaea 3, Valkyria Chronicles (sans cutscenes), free online.
But I miss out on Mass Effect and Tales Of Something-or-Other.
So for me, that's worth the extra hundred bucks or so. I don't really care about Bluray, but in the future I might.

I love Bluray movies (because I'm a graphics whore), and the PS3's a lot more... sturdy than the 360. It definitely depends on what you want to play, though: Little Big Planet, Uncharted, and MGS4 are good times, but you shouldn't miss out on Mass Effect, Fable 2 or Crackdown either.

I personally chose the 360 a couple years back, since at the time it seemed like it was hoarding all the awesomeness with the PS3 just stuck with the promise of FF XIII within the next lifetime, but the playing field has become more level within the recent year. For you, Judgeing from our current view of the future, I'd say that right now the PS3 is a slightly safer investment, considering the Microsoft has taken up an almost Nintendo like policy of not giving us any bloody information for the upcoming year, while we know that Sony is bringing out God of War III, inFamous, Uncharted 2, and so on. That isn't to say that a 360 is a bad choice now, it most certainly has a stronger existing lineup of exclusives, not to mention DLC packs not available on the PS3, baut looking at what we know of the future, my vote is Sony. But it wouldn't hurt to drop the price a little!
I assume you can't/don't want to get both? Because they're both great systems and definitely worth their prices.

If you like movies in good quality at all (& have an HDTV) spring for the PS3, blu-ray looks great. If it's just masses of games you want pick the 360, it has a monstrous amount of 'em.
Other than that just listen to the other people above me, the have good points as well.

I'd say "buy both," like I did, but my PS3 gathers dust so it seems like bad advice now. Honestly, it depends on the kind of games you're looking for. If you're big on playing online co-op / competitive games, I'd recommend the Xbox 360. LIVE costs a few bucks a month but it has proven to be a much better online service in my personal experience.
I like them both, really...I'm not a fanboy, I grew up with Sony, then migrated to Xbox, and seriously...they're both GREAT consoles. Like somebody said above, it depends what you want.

Xbox 360 has good online features, if you can tolerate the very real possibility that the thing will fuck up for no apparent reason. However, this is not to say in the slightest that the PS3 won't break; my friend's did quite recently in fact. Also the 360 has more games. I'm out.

xbox pisses on ps3 tbh onlines better, more games, better games, better controlls, might break true but microsoft does take it back fix it and give you a month xbox live back. so it doesnt really matter.
ps3 is just ba over sized paper weight, and before people say stuff i have both and i never bother going on ps3 any more selling it soon.
the ps3 y axis sucks mayjor ass aswell over played on by sony, blueray player doesnt make up for the shit stuff tbh

Xbox 360 definetly. It has a larger selection of games, is cheaper, and the online is actually worth playing. Not to mention we are all going to feed the beast some time. (and by beast, I mean Microsoft)
