X Com fans pissed at this should check out a little GBA game called Rebelstar: Tactical Command.
Seriously. DO IT!

I couldn't agree more. X-COM is more strategy-based than anything. On top of that the story isn't exactly memorable so they won't be attracting fans of the series based on that fact.Wadders said:That's not X-COM if it's an FPS.
I'm all for evolving and adapting games, but I will take a stand on this
It's not even like the X-COM name will bring in many extra customers, as I doubt that a large number of people who play console FPS these days even know what X-COM is.
The more niche a game's appeal, the more rabid the fanbase. Because the niche makes the fanbase feel special. Ergo, any attempt to alter that niche results in a severe backlash.Crosshead said:I agree that that it will not be the classic X-Com games (1 & 2), but they haven't gone anywhere. I've got both on my laptop. This thread makes it sound like people just want the old games with a graphical facelift and some more features. I'm not bothered about the graphics.
I loved Fallout 3, and I heard a lot of people moaning about it betraying it's roots. I think this might be the same. It won't please the hardcore fans, but the rest of us might get a good game.
Bah, FPS. What made X-com fun wasn't it's setting but rather the game play. Building up your army and strategy battles. Much more like Civilization than Halo.magicman4443 said:-It will be in a first person perspective.
-They plan on only releasing it for the Xbox 360
-You will play the role of a FBI agent tasked with identifying and eliminating the growing threat.
-An interesting quote:"2K Marin is currently developing XCOM(R), a suspenseful first-person shooter where players must do battle against an unknown and faceless enemy that is violently probing and plotting its way into our world."
