As some of you may know, Xenoblade Chronicles was released last Friday, but only in Europe and Australia (sorry America, sucks to be you).


I've got to say. It's the best JRPG I've played in the past 7 years, and I'm not a big fan of JRPGs to begin with.

The combat is fast paced and involving, completely getting rid of the terrible random battle system.

The world is absolutely huge, with hundreds of sidequests to keep you busy inbetween the main plot sections.

There is enough equipment for even the biggest spreadsheet hobbyist to be happy.

The characters are likeable, with quirky British accents (as a Brit, I found some of them a little forced, but hell, it's better than a high pitched American accent anyday).

The soundtrack is brilliant, I mean come, listen to this track and tell me it doesn't get your battle rage going...


This game has renewed my faith in the JRPG.

It has a metacritic rating of 91. If that hasn't convinced you that this game is worth your time, then I don't know what else will.

So, if you have the game, what do you think of it? If you haven't got the game, do you plan on getting it? How many of you yanks are importing or crying yourself to sleep at nights?

Not because I'm snobby against the Wii but because I've never seen fit to buy one. I actually had my hopes up a little there, was ready to buy off steam or Play.co.uk if it was on the Playstation.

Oh, I understand. The last game I bought for the Wii before Xenoblade was Monster Hunter Tri. That was released about a year ago.

My Wii is getting so much attention right now after so long of not being used that I think it might die from shock.

I'm noticing that the sort of people who are playing this are the type who count only Final Fantasy XIII as the only JRPG title they've played in the last 7 years.

Everything you described is pretty much standard for something like Disgaea or Tales, and it also doesn't seem to have anywhere close to the humour of the former or the world depth of the latter.

So, yeah, its better than FFXIII. Big accomplishment.

I'd quite happily play this game and I consider a roster of titles to be JRPG. I'm pretty sure that Bastion isn't even a Japanese game, but I find myself challenged to call it anything other than JRPG. (if it is Japanese then disregard that as a 'Well duh').
I also never played FFXIII, I have better taste than that.

Sadly though this game couldn't live up to TWEWY even if it tried, but I would have given it the chance.

Played the Tales games, they're pretty damn annoying too.

Ah, I see what we have here. Someone just doesn't like a JRPG that isn't pretentious.

Or so full of ridiculous grind that it made my head explode. Don't attempt to pressume why I dislike it.

I wouldn't even call Disgaea a JRPG, it's more like a strategy game that happens to have been made in Japan.

I haven't seen any sales figures, but I would suspect that it will directly influence whether or not it sells in NA.

If a game did that well in Europe, there is no reason why it wouldn't in NA.

Stop reminding me about the game. I can't afford it at the moment Although that's probably a better situation than Americans have but now they at least get to understand my pain.

Looks awesome, I wouldn't say however that random encounters were awful. I never really hated them like others seem to but then again, I am into JRPGs.

If a game did that well in Europe, there is no reason why it wouldn't in NA.

it also dosent make sense with them even refusing to release it. reggie REALLY needs to be fired

PLEASE stop taunting me. I would buy that game in a heartbeat, but because the assholes at NOA are all terrified that the game won't sell like hotcakes, I may never get to play it.

I have bought almost every good alternative wii game (okami, muramasa, etc). What more can I do to convince 'em to release these games?!

I mean, yeah, I didn't buy Arc Rise Fantasia...but that game was CRAP! I played it a bit at a friend's house and oh my gosh....It was awful. Bad boss battles, bad story, terrible voices.....>_<

Looks pretty good, I'm hoping it will be released to NA if at all possible. Frankly, I really want to see The Last Story released over here as well.

If not, not a huge deal, plenty of other JRPG's I could play.

This, oh please this, I only ever play JRPG's on handhelds, because I feel that the grindiness of them is perfect for pick up and play gaming. Except, you know, NOA, and the 3DS is region locked for some asinine reason...
