Xenoblade Successor Slated for Wii U

A new title from Monolith Soft adds giant mechs to JRPG combat.

If nothing else, you've got to give Monolith Soft points for consistency: No other JRPG developer so frequently includes the "xeno-" prefix in its titles [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monolith_Soft] or insists so often that giant, humanoid mechs must be part of the battle system. Take, for example, its new Wii U game. On the surface, this game shares a world, a battle system, and a general aesthetic with 2012's Xenoblade Chronicles, only now players can hop into enormous mech suits to do battle with larger foes. The game goes by the cryptic name of X for now, but looks like a bona fide part of the Xenoblade universe.

As far as content goes, the trailer has all the standard JRPG trappings. A spiky-haired protagonist wields a gun and a sword as the situation demands, as he and his party do battle with a variety of huge creatures. The twist comes later on, when he jumps into a giant mech battle suit, complete with energy weapons, flight, and vehicle transformation. That ought to mix things up a bit.

Kunihiko Tanaka of the Xenosaga series will provide character designs, and Hiroyuki Sawano, a popular Japanese TV composer, will tackle the score. If you liked the original Xenoblade Chronicles, X is a title to watch. If Monolith Soft doesn't keep the old tradition of battle mechs in JRPGs alive, who will?

Oh hell yes.

If it's ANYTHING like Xenoblade, this is gonna be good.

How good? Um, it might be the reason I buy a Wii U.

I haven't finished Xenoblade Chronicles yet, but I think it's fantastic so far. Yay for a successor, a reason to buy the WiiU. Might not be enough, but it is a reason.

Same here! Seriously I HEART Xenoblade Chroncile and I was already sold with the better graphic, refine combats and bigger monsters but a mech suit you can pliot into battle which can also transforms???

Well it still going to be a while for its release so I can I still got time wheather to buy the WiiU just to get that game alone!

Never played too much of Xenoblade Chronicles, but a good JRPG is always welcome! One more reason to get a Wii-U!
Shin Megami Tensei/Fire Emblem crossover!
Wait wait wait wait.... wait. Is that spoiler a real thing? If not I will be a very unhappy person now.

OT: Technically haven't played Xenoblade but seeing as a lot of people seem to like it as the rpg it is then I'm all for more good games being made

I'm 7 hours into Xenoblade and.. well. The sidequests are a bore, the game is too much mmo-y, the combat so far hasn't been very exciting and the story is pretty standard.

Why do people love this game so much? Does it get better like 30 hours in?

I'm in about the same situation. If it's really as great as people say, I'm not averse to investing a few dozen hours in it, especially because the sequel(?) looks pretty cool. But so far, it seems to be a lot of grinding and grappling with an unhelpful interface. Is there a point at which the game "clicks?"

That looked like there were player names listed in the game so it seems to be online multiplayer.

The rule of thumb with Xenoblade is to play to at least the Bionis leg. Generally the game's very big on scenery porn and it doesn't get going with that until you reach that point.
