I treat Yahtzee as I would a comedian like Russle Peters, he's not seriusly rascist, just making jokes. And I love them both for the laughs they give consitently.

My god not another Yahtzee thread, he is not a game reviewer, he is a CRITIC.
He presents the games in a humourus way in order to make the videos enjoyable, you shouldn't take him 100% serious although he does have some VERY valid points.

According to Yahtzee, he fancies himself a game critic, rather than reviewer. Meaning, he has more akin with Roger Ebert than the automatons at IGN, Gamespot, and the like -- those of that ilk are actually game reviewers. If you are looking for a game review, seek that information elsewhere, as Yahtzee (I agree with his position) is a critic rather than a reviewer. There are videos on Youtube of him explaining the difference at a conference I believe in Australia in 2008.

His criticism is unique, which is what drives his popularity -- it's criticism in an entertaining package -- what could be better than that?

He is entertaining but there is a strain of truth to his perceptions (skewed by comedic relief). He does point out glaring weaknesses in video games, lame plot lines/characters, bugs that detract from gameplay and overall "fun" factor. Also I think he's looking for a game that blows the socks off the industry and revolutionizes everything.
Despite the comedy and sarcasm, there is a lot beneath the surface which does constitute a review and #'s don't mean anything to players since tastes may vary. As with every critic, you either agree or don't but don't take the critics word as solid because you might find something redeemable.
However, since my views do correlate strongly with a lot of his reviews, I do use him as a comparison basis for my game buying experience over other critics. Possibly because comedy is a lot of the times a mask for brutal honesty.

Yahtzee doesn't offer complete reviews. He mostly points out the flaws in a game and presents them in a humorous way. He does mostly bash games but the flaws he points out are valid flaws most of the time. In order to be a complete review, he needs to present the good parts of a game as well and let the viewer make their own decision.

Yahtzee criticized FF13 heavily. While all of his complaints about the game were mostly accurate, that did not stop me from buying the game and enjoying it very much. No game is perfect and if a reviewer says that a game is fantastic and gives it a perfect score, then you know that the game is not being reviewed subjectively.

Number rating systems are over-rated and people rely on them too much. I agree with him that it is not realistic to break down an entire game into a number. If anyone bases their buying choices entirely on reviews, then they will be missing out on some games they might really enjoy. You really need to read the review thoroughly and weigh the good with the bad and make your own mind up.

Yahtzee is a great source of information, but he should not be relied on completely. Yahtzee is great at pointing out flaws that most reviewers don't see or think are too trivial to mention. I want to hear the good and the bad. If you are unsure about buying a game, then you should be consulting several sources to get as much information as possible.

A bit. If he REALLY hates a game, you probably shouldn't get it, but if he's just kinda complaining about it without any strong hate, it's probably safe to get.

I do take him seriously most of the time, but i think i can see it when he is exaggerating to make a point or a joke, but time from time he seems to shoot himself in the foot (as far as credibility goes)

Sometimes, Sometimes not. For example, I bought Psychonauts after seeing his review of it, but I didn't think Uncharted was THAT racist.

And Sometimes I ignore him completely, like when he called Jericho a Piece of Shit. It's the best game of this century!!!

...Pay no attention to Clive Barker Aiming a Pistol at my Cranium.

All I will say is this: all the negative things my friends and I find in video games he finds as well. Sometimes we have the same criticisms as he does, and we seriously review the game.

I watch his videos to laugh and be entertained. I never took him seriously. Then again, the chances of me even playing any of the games he has reviewed are kinda low.

His points are still valid, they are just exaggerated for comic effect. The appeal is a cynical "hate everything" personality.

Yahtzee offers a lot of flaws in all of the games he reviews in Zero Punctuation, but without a ratings system and constantly looking over the positive things, it's hard to feel like he's told me enough about the game for me to go by his word. I don't take Yahtzee seriously.
Do you?
His lack of a rating system isn't a problem.

His tendency to swing between "Exaggeration of a game's flaws" and "Played the game for 5 minutes on easy mode before writting the review", however, is.
