Yahtzee is an inspiration

I'm not really sure how to answer. He does, but in a very round-about way. When writing reviews, I tend to put down some of my thoughts on paper, see what everyone else has said (which includes Yahtzee where possible), and make sure any of their criticisms don't jar any of my experiences that I missed out of memory and onto the page. Then I edit a little, clean up, then post my review. For the reviews which Yahtzee had a review, I'm usually in a pretty decent mood before I start writing, which helps.

As far as a direct inspiration, no. Yahtzee's style has intelligence, but neither poise nor tact. Where his vocabulary could power stronger, more literate reviews, he instead favors cheap jokes, teenage humor, and insult streams. It's a bit like the Roman Colosseum. Certainly the brutality has a form of appeal, but it just strikes me as too crass to be anything other than a cheap laugh once a week. Then again, I'm also not the type who watches Jackass. Yet, there is a market for it, so take of that what you may.

Not really, I am inspired by his critiques but I don't aspire to write like him because that would never happen and it'd be spotted in an instant. Running a game's review site I need to have my own voice and whilst I like to use irony/sarcasm/humour in my reviews, I don't aspire to have Yahtzeeisms all over them.

Wait...You got to read Ender's Game as required reading? Which freaking English class are you taking, all I got to read in english were crappy Shakespeare plays and books like the scarlet letter.
OI!!!
Shapespeare is NOT crap.
And...
after having read Ender's Game... I have to say... it IS crap. Oh come on... aliens taking over the Earth by competing in a sports game? Please.

Sorry to derail a bit...
but...
the closest that Yahtzee's ever gotten to "inspiring" me to do anything were those few occasions that he would start dispensing random bile for Indigo Prophecy. I sort of played the game to find out why he hated it so much...

Hey, Shakespeare is a cool dude! Don't be an ass to the guy who almost made English language of today, and is incredibly awesome when it comes to fart and sexually explicit jokes. Shakespeare is awesome! Although being forced to slowly read through the plays with the entire class who can't pronounce a simplest word and read like they are in 3rd grade (I had like 6 people from school's football team in one of my English classes back in High School. Clearly, the stereotypes have some truth behind them...)

As far as most other books in my school curriculum go, I wish I didn't have to read them. We did get a few cool things like Brave New World, but that was just a choice from a list of books for some independent project. Being "forced" to read such awesome classics as Ender's Game would be awesome!

Although having Heinlein's The Moon is a Harsh Mistress or Ursula Le Guin's Left Hand of Darkness as required reading would be even better. Not entirely a big fan of Ender's Game, but hey, gotta defend science fiction.

in my Media Studies class, in almost all the games reviews we were supposed to do, i did a ZP style review, and sometimes i purposefuly chose bad games so i could rip into them more than games i liked.

Good Times.

Relax people I was exaggerating, pointing out that when I was in english class, I had to study classics and whatnot, and he apparently gets to read sci-fi novels.

I find myself emulating Yahtzee's pessimistic none-stop-talking far more often than should be healthy. But I love it.

Thanks to Yahtzee, I now see many flaws in games. I feel bad about seeing how my beloved Halo 3 is a bit average. But I still have major fun on it.

You know, sarcastic critiquing isn't just a Yahtzee thing. When I took Film Design in high school we had to do reviews/critiques of the movies we watched in class, and I got a nearly perfect score on an extremely sarcastic review/critique of "Duck Soup". And this was before Yahtzee had made it so popular too.

So that's super cool that your teacher thought your paper was funny, but it's not really something to brag about to random strangers on the Internet. And honestly, unless you're typing up a copy for us to read, why should we care at all? You could easily be making this up.

And I was given the LotR trilogy as required reading for summer reading in high school. Needless to say, after I read The Fellowship during summer of 9th grade, I was at a book store buying up the rest of them the week after so that I could read the rest.

Do talk shit about the 'Speare.

They had Ender's Game as required reading at my brother's school, too.
