I Was Updating a friend of mine on bioshock infinite cus she hadn't seen the new gameplay trailer, and when i was seeing it again i noticed a bunch of stuff had been changed, mainly elizabeth, she's had 3 designs so far, i like the new one and i think they should keep it that way, then i noticed the songbird design had changed too, then the voices, and ultimately after seeing the huge beautiful world i thought, ''mmmhm the huge open world makes gears of war seem ultra linear by comparison... aww crap it's going to have ridiculously long loading times'' I didn't used to think about games like this... but after seeing so much yahtzee i notice all these details... i really REALLY hope it doesn't ruin the game experience for me... damn you bitter brit man... DAMN YOU!!!... I love you... o_O

I actually know the feeling, kinda. Different medium though.
After a particularly boring movie analysis thing in school i went and watched a movie. I couldn't enjoy it as much because i kept checking off pan shots, close-ups on faces and kept trying to think of what the director wanted me to think. Rather than watching the bloody movie.

I call it 'Pulp Fiction' syndrome; it was my favourite film as a lad, was super-excited when we got to study it in Media. Then, after 3 months of constant analysis and scrutiny, I hated the damn thing because all the magic had gone. Haven't watched it since.
I see the purpose of Yahtzee's relentlessness - force the current generation of consumers into studying and picking apart every release (esp. AAA) to make us more discerning, thereby forcing producers in turn to step up their game re: artistic and technical innovation.
We're just in the unfortunate position of being active during that period of adjustment.

Ever since Yahtzee pointed them out I have a tendency to notice any and all conveniently placed chest-high walls, particularly in cover-based shooters.

The "zooming into the back of your head" bit gets honorable mention as well.

I really hope I never get that. It sucks most of the enjoyment out of all but the best things.

Well after playing so many games and knowing how good mechanics work I get really annoyed when someone doesn't polish their game, especially when they completely ignore shit that was figured out over two decades ago.

And selling ingame items and maps just puts my teeth on edge because those take so little effort to make.

I have this problem too, im so used to critiquing movies that now i instantly see whats wrong with a movie when i watch it. I cant just enjoy the movie for being a movie

I still say Bioshock Infinite's demo is just as "unscripted" as Half-Life 2's demo was back in the day, heh.

And considering the original Bioshock had all the subtlety in its writing as that of a fluorescent brick, I don't really hold much hope for Infinite having a compelling story either.

After watching yahtzee I tend to be sarcastic as hell. This is on top of my already sarcastic personality. I have to restrain myself from making the first bloody comment that comes to my mind. Oh and I say brit words like 'bloody.

Apparently my GF hates me because I ruined Call of Duty and Nintendo for her. When I convinced her that both have just been remaking the same game over and over again. Now she can't play a single Nintendo game or Black Ops without criticizing it in her head.

....Just thought this was the right thread to put this little tidbit of information.

Yahtzee may give a lot of excuses for this but he really does magnify every bad thing in almost every review he writes to the point of taking away all the fun out of when I actually do get around to playing the game.

Now, I just his shows for the lulz and for the, occasionally, insanely true comment he makes about an aspect or two of a game.
