His last two ZPs since SotC have actually been good and actually fresh, unlike the stream of penis jokes he was coming up with perviously (typo, I figured I'd leave it), seems having the opportunity to say something positive actually did him some good. Let's say once per quarter he changes the pace to stay fresh?

Why don't you message him with that idea and see what he thinks of it?

I don't really mind. He reviews the games that are somewhat current and does a good job. Sure, sometimes it's hit and miss, but they are all still generally good.

And plus, I felt like some of his pre-SotC reviews were a lot better than Transformers. A lot.

I like it more when he hates things, comedy rants are always better than mild criticism/gushing love

I actually do like it more when he likes a game. He's always able to find something to complain about anyway, but the comedy always feels more exasperated than vindictive in those cases, which I find funnier.

Never really got the problem people have with the newer Zero Punctuations.
How about you name the last video that you found fresh and devoid of penis jokes before SotC?

Actually, he's said before [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/4-BioShock] that people don't like when he reviews games he likes because they're not as funny.

Additionally, he reviews games The Escapist wants him the review. End of story.

Yahtzee has to curb to the masses, who unfortunately are people who prefer penis jokes rather than social and political satire. That's why some of his reviews tend to be a bit more repugnant, because his view count goes much higher if he is appealing to the general public. Sure, a few people have resigned from watching his videos because of this, but the margins are better if he will get more people coming back to watch the reviews again, which most people do when he full-steam-ahead rants on the game in question. This is a logical approach, which is why I suspect the Escapist hands him titles like Transformers, rather than handing him some of the more respectable titles.

I don't like it when he gives bad reviews to games that are known to be mediocre. I never considered Transformers to be a good game- his review did not challenge any conceptions I had.

Ripping a popular game a new one is always amusing to me, though.

I agree with the Escapist probably giving him games. Unfortunately, it happens and we have to deal with it. Normally I don't find his reviews to be utterly hilarious, but there are some times in each video when I find what he says generally funny. It's just the process of listening to the subtle humor in his reviews that is funnier than the screaming ranting about penis jokes.

Yeah. What the hell was all that about? I expected to either laugh, or get offended, but it was so... puerile... that it just bored me.

Yahtzee's reviews always put a smile on my face. Hell, he could rip my favorite game apart, but I'd still probably laugh because he'd likely be right. It's all a matter of taste and the material he's working with. Think about it. How could you possibly review a casual game? They're meant for the bored every man to unwind with, while the hard core gaming crew have got their own issues. "Serious" games (I use serious loosely, 'cause let's face it, at the end of the day, they're just games) have a lot more meat on their bones, and thus, a lot more to pick apart and digest.

This.

OT: I agree with you, man. I really like the ones for games he likes, although the Orange Box review was my favorite. This was because he had to do a mediocre-by-his-standards game (TF2), then two that he actually liked (Half-Life and Portal), and he still had to find a way to keep the hate going. And then he just gives up when he hits Portal. I found it so funny.

He doesn't need to, we don't need to know what games he likes, his freshness Is In what he hates, Halo 3, Modern Warfare 2, etc., popular games that score tens and fives, he picks them apart with a truly unique look. He is standing on a soapbox telling us that our conventions suck, and holds up copies of Okami and Psychonauts shouting how good games get lost In the hype of that title everyone was talking about at E3.

He previously stated that the viewers found it more funny when he gave "bad" reviews.
Thus he decided to continue. Or something like that.
