Yahtzee needs to review games he likes a bit more frequently

Yahtzee is a game critic.

It is his job to criticize specific things about games whether he likes them or not. Literally. It's his job. He points out flaws in games in the hope that developers will take his wisdom and improve on them. And thank god, too. There are "impartial reviewers" oozing out of the floorboards on this here internet, but there's only one Yahtzee.

In a video game review, you don't need to point out the good parts of a game, because everybody already knows all about them. They're in the market hype. Designers dash to show off the great parts. But to acknowledge that any great masterpiece has elements on which it should improve is a noble calling.

I agree with you M-J, he doesn't need to like the games at all and he is truly one of the only reviewers that is so opinionated. That's what makes it so much more worthwhile when he says that he likes a game.

I think he already does them for exactly that reason. He used the same technique back in his FullyRamblomatic days; he'd rip into bad BBC erotic films, crappy Genisis games, and the Furry Fandom back-to-back; and then he'd spend the next week talking about why Sam Raimi is awesome. From firsthand experience, I can tell you that the occasional shift in mood can refresh you pretty well when you spend a lot of time taking the piss.

I really feel like this should be more obvious, but I suppose he's not. He's a critic, not a reviewer. A comedian even. His schtick is ripping apart games. That's what he does.

I've little doubt he'd be a fine reviewer in his own right, but that's just not really what he does right now.

He does do a bit of review every once in a while, but I agree with your point. He really doesn't review a game in earnest that often. (Although he did in the past quite a bit more often than now).

His last two ZPs since SotC have actually been good and actually fresh, unlike the stream of penis jokes he was coming up with perviously (typo, I figured I'd leave it), seems having the opportunity to say something positive actually did him some good. Let's say once per quarter he changes the pace to stay fresh?

Why don't you message him with that idea and see what he thinks of it?

If he made himself find something positive in the game and ramble on about that instead of it's flaws all the time, it wouldn't really be staying true to the same style that so many have come to love.

At least, that's what I think.

Y'know, I actually agree with this.

I have no idea if it "did him some good" or not, but it makes for a nice change of pace.

And praise can be just as funny as criticism.

I think he should switch to reviewing anything but games, I mean his taste in games has become way too predicable and I only watch them for the entertainment value, which has also become a bit predictable.

It's like hearing a person tell you again and again what type of games he likes and dislikes.

I've seen enough of his vids to become annoyed by this, and in most cases I just want to disagree with him for the sake of disagreeing...0o

He should switch with movieBob and do some movie review, but then again if you put movieBob in charge of game reviews he'll just spend a minute talking about the actual game and an hour explaining why in his mind Super Mario 3 is better....0o

Yahtzee does not review games he criticizes them. Yahtzee is a critic therefore he does critiques. He does not even do them just for the sake of the critique he does them for comedic effect. Yes he is a good critic but would not be so without the comedy and most people rather it when he rips the shit out of things. Mostly stuff like JRPGs because his fans can be a bit fanatical and copy paste with his opinions and don't like change. As the last time he gave a game a good critique it was Psychonauts and most people hated it. So you can play most of Yahtzee's fanbase for him not critizing games he liks more often. They like it when he hates games so unfortunately that is somethign about him I don't see changing.
