Yahtzee's naming conventions

Whenever Yahtzee has reviewed a game where you get to name your character he has always put in some sort of hilarious combinations of adjectives and verbs. Sadly this is only really do able with some of the older games or the rpgs released on handhelds.

In accordance with Yahtzee's Convention (in this case, a set of agreed, stipulated or generally accepted standards) I like to rename my characters to "You there!". It is hilarious to see NPCs run up to me shouting "You there!", doubly so in FF8 because Squall has prescription grade abandonment issues. He makes a big deal out of not being remembered which is kind of meta since I renamed him "You there!" (No one remembers or bothers to learn his name).

So taking inspiration from Yahtzee, how many of you name your in game characters in such fashions?

I did this in FFIX with Garnet/Dagger. I didn't name her Dagger, I just kept it as Garnet. Then is kind of broke the story a bit! (The first time I played) as people were calling her Garnet and recognising her, and not realising that she was Princess Garnet. And then being so shocked when they found that she was princess garnet...! It got hard to tell eventually whether people knew or not!

In all games where you can name your nemesis (mainly pokemon), he is ALWAYS Tarquin. Why? Because you can't take someone seriously if they are called Tarquin.

I think I called him "Dickhead", made for some interesting dialogue.

I tend to just go with standard awesomeness. For instance, my Shepard in Mass Effect is called Awesome A. Shepard. The A stands for awesome, because Awesome is his middle name.

In pokemon I always call my nemesis Prick. Good fun.

Don't forget Mass Effect. It even comes up in his review where he mentions his last name is Shepherd and his first name is "Titty."

I did a run of Final Fantasy VII where all the characters I could name were named based on the cliché they occupied.

So many characters trying to get attention from the internet in that game...

Forgot that he did that too for Mass Effect. I only ever played the one Renegade build, called Bitchface. Shame the first names are never used, would have been funny to read it in an ingame message; "Hey Bitchface..."

I'm not terribly creative when it comes to such things. I usually just name characters after myself. One time I named my character "zzzzzzzzzzzzz," which made NPCs sound like they were suffering from narcolepsy.

Personally, I think Spoony's renaming of Rinoa and her dog Angelo in Final Fantasy VIII is the most hilarious example I've heard of. He names them "A Whore" and "Anal" respectively. The reasoning for this is explained in the following quote (spoiler'd for potentially disturbing mental imagery):

"As you can see, A Whore's Limit Break uses Anal, and you can learn many tricks with Anal. There are a lot, but you start with Anal Rush, Anal Recover and Anal Cannon. The dog gets more powers from the Pet Pals magazine, including Anal Search, Anal Strike and Anal Reverse (eww!). Now as A Whore walks around, she gets more Anal tricks, and I think we all know that's true."

Yes it's juvenile, but I laughed long and hard nonetheless.
