We all know he's not a jerk, he's Yahtzee! I'm sure the persona he uses for the 'fans' is just that, a persona. It's funny, it keeps you interested and amused, it's a character, it's Yahtzee! But Ben Croshaw the man, not Yahtzee the persona, is just a normal guy who likes his games. Maybe when Game Damage becomes more popular and permanent I'm sure he'll get used to the fans, but I gotta say, ZP tats? I'm not sure why you'd do that. It's a great series, but do I want it on my body? I gotta say no.
wow. You sure sound a lot like you've known him your whole life.

No, it's a simple assumption I've made. I'm simply stating the idea that he's probably just a normal guy like evryone else, I don't claim to be into the things he's into, or be like him at all. I don't think he's a jerk, that means I'm implying I've known him his whole life? Maybe a bad choice of words in what I wrote, but I'm simply putting forward the idea that, as a regular guy, I certianly wouldn't appreciate people walking up to me assuming I'm into the shit they're into, and I would be pretty standoffish about it too. Wouldn't you be? Fame in any form can be hard to handle, and from what I know of people who don't handle fame well, they tend to be normal, chirpy happy people, but fans intimidate them. So I'm not trying to put forward the idea that I know his personality back to front, just that he's a normal guy, and maybe people should remember that if they see him, or decide to get a tatoo of an imp on a yellow background.

He probably still thinks you're a tool if you love Super Smash Bros., though.
And it is for that reason we are bitter enemies for life.

I thought it was an act to a certain degree though, no one could possibly be that jaded all the time, but that's not going to stop the dozens of Yahtzee threads that are no doubt going to flood in.

I probably wouldn't mind him too much if his die hard fans didn't take his words as bible. It's like if you seemingly hate a game, you are 'speaking the truth', something I just don't get.

Tattoo? Well, I've seen weirder... At least it might look kind of cool.

Totally understandable-- why do fans do that? They act all buddy-buddy and it just becomes awkward for the person.

(Side note: PDF?! Ugh.)

Im surprised people recognize him on the streets. I have only seen his face twice, the picture for the article and when he talked to us directly about quick time events. If I saw him pass by on the streets I dont think I would be able to tell who he was.

Also he is a star now, just all movies stars and musicians and the like, people will bother the hell out of you 24/7. Get used to it Yahtzee!

Well damn, this is what I get for making a joke. I hope you're willing to pay my medical bills because I think I walked into your wall of text and broke my nose.

I certainly like his video series but I think a tatoo might be A BIT excessive.
A T-shirt is fine, but you're right, permanently scaring your body in honour of a series of videos on the internet is not a good idea.
I've seen people tatooing Patrick Dempseys face into their arms because their obssesed with Greys Anatomy... *sigh* it's things like that that make me lose faith in humanity.

[T]he whole "fan" thing confuses me. I like things. Maybe you like the same things as me. That's cool. But I like a lot of things and it's almost certain I'll find other things some day that are even better than the things I currently like, so getting attached is just weird.
I always felt like this as well. I would go as far as saying that I like a couple of things a lot, really really a lot, but a fan...

When I think of a fan I think of a football supporter, or one of those people at a concert almost weeping and screaming when the band comes on the stage, and the people at front of the stage desperatly reaching out to touch the lead singer when he moves towards the crowd. If that's fandom, I'll stay far away from it.

But ofcourse I can still appreciate the music of said band, heck maybe I even absolutely adore the music. But all the jazz surrounding it, defending what you like to no end and reaching out for an autograph of an artist or actor or something, no thanks.

Funny timing for this article. I just got a huge unskippable tattoo on my back. I never actually saw ZP as a thing to be a fan of. I watched it pretty much since day one and to me it's like reading a newspaper or comic book. entertaining and very funny but I wouldn't obsess over it.

Now Paul and Graham I want to glue to a chair and show my slides.......

DO YOU SEE?!

"wow, you must really like Zero Punctuation to get ZP tatooed on your manhood!"

"Naw baby, it don't say ZP. When I get excited, it says "Zero Punctuation is a video game review series created by comedy writer, video game journalist and gamer Ben ?Yahtzee? Croshaw and produced by online magazine The Escapist. Each week's review is previewed on The Escapist Show and G4's X-play the Tuesday before it is released on Wednesday in the Zero Punctuation section of the website."

If you like it, I think it's great , and if you change your mind 20yrs later, then you can always have it covered up or lasered off. No big.

I think Yahtzee, both real and fake, is great. I think he is very clever and a talented writer and critic. I think people should just chill out when they see him and not be the spazzes that make him a "jerk".

i guess that would be a hassle to have some fans who act like a girl (who clearly dont know good music) who are seeing the jonas brothers when they are seeing you. Also i wonder why he is so popular over other game critics and my main theory is that its because he did it in such a funny mannor, wich (unlike most critics) i can stand him and also because he riffs on games more than any other critic does (or at least the gameinformer). Also people getting ZP tatts? know thats stupid.

Zero Puncuation FTW!

Getting a ZP tattoo is a weee bit too fucking extreme. Otherwise I'd just leave him alone. His a funny man on the intertubes and just a man in Australia offline.

Wow, his internet fame has really spilled over into real life? I must say I'm more than a little surprised.

I've been in bands, I currently work in Television, and I've had people recognize me all the time, and I've even signed autographs. I would never, ever say "I just don't get fans", because whatever these peoples motivations are for loving you, they just do, and if you put yourself out there it's just something you have to deal with. A better response would have been "I appreciate people taking time out of their day to view my work, thank you all for supporting me!".

In a fan-centric business, be it wrestling or internet videos, it's very important to make sure the fans know you appreciate them, or else they ain't coming back, and you have less butts in seats. Not hatin on Yahtzee, just sayin', it's kind of a bumbling response when he could have taken that time to thank the people that got him where he is today.

Ride the wave and be happy for what you got, Mr. Croshaw, there's a lot of people who would kill to be in your position, and it most certainly won't last forever. But, as a fan of yours, I hope it does.
If your names already public knowledge, would you mind me asking you who you are?
