If you've been keeping an eye on it, wait for Skyrim.
What I was gonna say.

You now have money, save it.

You could either buy the above average games that are coming out right now, or wait for the Triple A titles that are pretty much going to be as close to video game gold that are coming out in two months.

What didn´t work for you with Deus Ex?

Did not try TrackMania, but I think a buddy of mine has it. I´ll give it a shot and take it from there....
Deus Ex, I really don't want to start a bone-fire again. Anyway, here's my review of it, I'm not saying you wouldn't enjoy the game, but my review is as fair as possible, make your own decision:
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/deus-ex-human-revolution/player_review.html?id=773581&tag=player-reviews%3Bcontinue%3B5

I think you can still play TrackMania Nations for free. The payed version gives you different vehicles (but with the same speed). There are major differences between that one and the new one, and I don't expect the new one to be free on launch, but it looks good. However it's PC only so I'd say play the old one, have fun and if you like it, read the reviews once the second one comes out, check the system requirements and maybe then buy it.
As for Space Marine, there's a demo out (for PC at least, no idea about consoles). Looks fun, can't wait for it.

Seriously, this is one the lamest types of threads on this site.
And yet, here you are.

I swear, some people...
How else could I express my disdain with you. LOL

Seriously, look up what games are out, read reviews, and look at videos on youtube. How hard is that. Its not the eighties when the only way to learn about new games was to have a friend with gamepro magazine.

Its also assumed that someone who makes a profile for this website woudl know enough about games to make up their own mind.

Get Space Marine.

Anything else will be an act of heresy. It's a TPS/Slasher set in the grim darkness of the far future with space-orks, space-religious extremists and space bat-shit-totally-fucked-up-in-the-head-religious extremists.

If you've had your eyes on Deus Ex, get it. It's worth it. I have nothing else to say other than you'll likely enjoy it.

Perhaps a game which educates on the fact that "chose" is the past tense of "choose" and "choose" is the correct word to use in the infinitive form you must make by putting in that "to". /grammar rant done.

I think it all depends on what you're looking for. I would probably wait for Tribes: Ascend to come out because I LOVE that series of games, and it'll be free to play. Then, there's always the option to go with a few indie games rather than footing $60 for a single gaming experience. Or, alternatively, wait for a Steam sale and then act like a kid in a candy store. Oh the teeth rotting joy of Steam sales!

Although you may be a console gamer... in which case if you're not on PSN, you have no Steam. And probably lead a relatively, non-rotten tooth, existence.

If you were to look at my original post you would see that I simply asked what people would buy right now if they could afford only one game.
I also said that I was looking at Deus Ex (based on several reviews) and was wondering if it was worth the money.

I don´t get what your problem is. You "disdain" me? Screw you buddy! If you have nothing to contribute to the conversation the very least you can do is to shut up!

Now I am done with you! You may go!

If you have friends to play it with consistently, Dead island is a great co-op title. Its decent alone too, but can get a little lonely and dull after a while, depending on how much you can tolerate a slow pace.

Otherwise, Human revolution is a decent game, with about a 30 hour playthrough if you do most of the side quests without dicking around much.

Space marines is probly pretty good too, I didn't buy it when it came out cus I left with dead Island on hand, so I can't really say :p.

Wow, way to be a dick about it. If you could affod one and only one game between summer and xmas what would you have bought? I sure as hell wouldn't know.

OP: I keep a list of upcoming games are rank the 'want' level accordingly. Read reviews, look at some lets plays, demos ETC. See what you think you would like the most and then get that. (I have my top 4 games preordered and bought Deus Ex last week, it's a pretty good system.)

Saved my pay. Rummaged through the couch. Brokered a shady deal with a man named Flint down by the docks.

And finally! I can afford a new game!

I´ve had my eyes set on Deus Ex: Human Revolution but I´d like to get some input from you lovely people!

What do you think Escapists: If you could by one game, and one game only for the next month or so, which would it be?

Think hard! I´d rather not deal with Flint again any time soon...
Aussie?

Super Meat Boy, The Longest Journey and Audiosurf.

To keep you away from the violence. Damn kids and their violent video games.

Seriously though, those games are awesome. Give them a look.

EDIT: Some other recommendation thingies. These are all on Steam.

Dreamfall (derp)
Vampire: The Masquerade
The Last Remnant
Trackmania United Forever (stay away from TM2C, that shit's expensive)
Rock Of Ages
Chantelise (very, very nichey)
Nightsky
Recettear
Aquaria (very, very british accent)
Worms Reloaded
Dead Island
The Polynomial
Jamestown
Borderlands (2 maybe?)
Bastion
Counter-Strike Source
Day of Defeat: Source (damn cheap, not many players)
Inside A Star-Filled Sky (worth getting on the side of whatever else you get, it's somewhere under 10 bucks)
Saira
Zeno Clash (this probably goes against my violence statement earlier. most brutal thing ever)
Serious Sam (any of them)
Morrowind
Skyrim (obv. not out yet)

I totally didn't paste in my Steam wishlist and some of my better games.

I pre-ordered WH40K: Space Marine as the game itself looks as though it should be fantastic, however, I think that's due to my recent love for the Warhammer 40K lore and history, having said that though the combat looks brutal and entertaining, as it should. Watch a few videos of the Space Marine demo and see for yourself. Or perhaps just wait for Skyrim?

Buy Deus Ex: Human Revolution. You won't be disappointed.

Other than that I can also recommend buying Batman Arkham Asylum (not really a new game , but nice to play when part 2 is coming out shortly) and of course pre-ordering Arkham City.

If you liked Oblivion or Fallout 3 you must save your money for Skyrim. I won't do that personally, I hated Oblivion and don't want to fall into the same trap again (that is, following the hype)

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is an outstanding game and well worth the money, whether you like stealth games, WRPGs, story-based games, cover-based shooters or the first Deus Ex. After that, if you have anything left over and like hard games, try Super Meat Boy. 15 dollars for about 300 levels, and everything after the first 40 will probably take more than one try. And it gives you indie cred.

Nope. Norwegian. Same difference I guess, only colder....

Expensive is right. A new release goes for 599 NOK. 1 USD = 5 NOK so a new game does about 120 USD worth of damage.

EDIT: I know you don´t use USD down under but USD is the only one I knew of the top of my head...

BIG WARNING for Deus Ex: Human Revolution: It's most likely not going to last you a month. I completed almost all of the side quests and tried not to rush through the game and I was still able to beat it over the course of 4-5 days. Since you stated that you can only buy one game I would avoid it and look for something with more longevity. Deus Ex: HR is a great game nonetheless, I would just look elsewhere if I were you.

My recommendation is to get Torchlight. It's this fantastic dungeon crawler with tons of loot to find and you could easily sink some serious time into it. It's available on Mac/PC (specs are very low) and Xbox Live. Since its around $15, you could then pickup Torchlight II which is set to be released around October/November for $30.

This would be the way a mildly intelligent person would make a decision about what game to buy. I guess the OP never learned this. But instead is quite good at tattle taling on people like me. Given the OP, I'm not surprised in the least.

I guess its time to find a forum with people who aren't pussies and can fight their own battles. I've been meaning to leave this site for a while, and now I'm finally ready to do it. Adios sixteen year old nerds, it was fun a year ago, and has degredated into the faceless and spineless community it now is.
