I see your point but for me the regular gunplay is just not good enough. If they removed shields in the other game modes I'd be happy.
Well, if that's the case, I'd play some other game, not Halo. Shields are what have come to define the Halo franchise, they're an essential gameplay element. They also add an extra layer of tactics (just getting one gun and emptying your whole clip into the enemy works, but what works better is draining their shields with a plasma weapon and then finishing them off with a kinetic weapon or headshot-capable weapon as they work better against Health). Is it the way enemies take so long to kill that gets you? I adore that. It means you actually have to bother aiming and making your shots count, rather than just spraying in their general direction and removing enough health to kill them by chance alone.

We've gone way offtopic, somebody should start a proper thread about this.

Dear god. SWAT is the antichrist. I hate it sooooo much. Completely boring, removes every interesting thing from Halo. I don't have a clue why so many people vote for it, but it's thankfully getting its own playlist sometime soon.
SWAT is the only game mode I like because it actually relies on some skill, rather than getting killed with power weapons, melee kills and grenade spamming.
This is a common argument I hear in favour of SWAT. I disagree entirely. Regular Halo does take "some skill" - if anything it takes more skill than Team SWAT, since in SWAT you only ever have to know how to use one weapon and no armour abilities. You don't have to learn the different properties of the weapons, their placement on the map, how to guess what angle to throw a grenade at to hit somebody, how to perfectly time an Armour Lock to deflect a rocket, or any number of additional things. It does not take more skill than the other halo gametypes, that's bullshit. /rant

Then it sounds like you're more of a Call of Duty kind of player. I take it you like to take out your opponents with a few shots, make it more realistic.

While I wouldn't want to tell you to stop playing Halo, I would like to know instead why you bought the game in the first place, full well knowing the style of combat you normally engage in, when there's so many good one shot one kill more realistic kind of shooters out there?

mine was from L4D. I don't remember what it said but it came right after I got the tank and stomped the entire enemy team. Afterwards my team kicked me and sent me hate mail. I thought it was hilarious.

The only one that ever bothered me was one threatening to hack my account. Turns out he was bullshitting.

He was mad because I was using Claymores in MW2 :D

Haven't gotten that much hate mail.

Most memorable one was a chap on MW2 - not sure why he started (probably wasn't fond of my all-stealth class) but started saying stuff like 'you wanna go ill come to ur house ur not hard find' (which made me laugh because I've been doing martial arts for the past several years).

He eventually challenged me to a 1v1, which I accepted. Knifed him right from the outset then spent the rest of the 10 minute game camping. It ended as 2 - 0 (I headshotted him when he ran past once). Cheap, I know, but a win's a win and it was worth it to hear him scream afterwards.

I hate MW2 with a passion, its easily one of the worst online FPS's I have ever had the misfortune to play. Sounds odd, given what I have just said!

I bought Halo because its the next big game me and friends are moving onto, I really enjoyed the single player, firefight modes, that Zombie game and occasionally the headhunter/skull matches so I got my moneys worth. I can handle the odd time I'm put into the regular matches.

Shome douchebags I was playing with on L4D. I tried to quit, but they booted me. I insulted them with about every insult ever while they were trying to, but then about 8 minutes after leaving one guy sent me a message like
"Ha Ha, who's laughing now, fatass?"
I replied with a nasty yo mamma joke and a message to go die in a hole.

I got my first Xbox Live hate message last night on Halo: Reach! It was a voice message so it sounded like a cat in a blender like always, but what I made out was "next time you play SWAT make sure you get more than six kills...blah blah fuck off."

Oddly it hurt me because despite being a Captain rank, he was on my own team, and because I was the only person with sense who voted for good old slayer instead of SWAT, and seeing as whenever its chosen on Halo Reach (and in all fairness, when ISN'T it) everyone grows magical head-targeting bullets that seem to forget to be equipped to my gun.

Anyway 'Reach Rant' over, still remember your first hate message on Xbox Live, PSN or Wii for that matter?
Typically I only get this kind of thing over fighting games, which is why I rarely play them anymore. Back when "Soul Calibur IV" game out pretty much everyone I beat felt the need to file an unsportsmanship-like conduct complaint and/or send me something rude.

Clearly! I was playing Cage Match in Modern Warfare before school and this little shit wanted to boost(ie let me get 9 headshots and I'll let you get 9) sarcastically I agreed and got 9 head shots in with my Baretta 50, He was saying okay my turn and I shot him again taking the clean sweep. Little fucker was pisssed he called me a ****** and said his 'uncle' was gonna get me banned from Xbox Live. I promptly ignore him instead of taunting which I very easily could have done

I don't remember, but it surely was someone telling me to go to the kitchen instead of playing video games, asking for a picture of me, asking personal stuff, et cetera, et cetera.
