Yeah, this is a little late, but Kingdom Hearts 2 made no sense to me!

laying it out, KH is a great series but agreed that the storyline doesn't make sense unless you think of it this way. the first is straightforward enough (bad guy wants power, good guy beats bad guy, subplots galore, finale). In chain of memories, the nobodies were erasing soras memories which made him believe they were holding the girl he liked hostage, so going through them to rescue her is also somewhat justified in a gaming sense (Mario Bros plot basically). Kh2 has the nobodies collecting hearts by hurting the friends of the main chaaracters, thus messing with the worlds order and also attempting to kill or destroy some of the disney characters who the main characters know (i.e. xaldin attempts to make beast into a heartless). Basically, the only way Sora and Co.'s actions against the Nobodies can be justified is simply because they wanted to kill him, stole his girlfriend, and were using him to get hearts. add this to the fact that nobodies are technically are not supposed to exist, and sora was essentially killing off very annoying viruses. yes their story is extremely tragic and i honestly think Axel could have been the strongest organization member if he used his power better (i loved that guy), but i digress, they are emotionless (no matter how much they pretend not to be) and always initiated the fight first, or did something to piss Sora off, etc.

It was Nomura trying to much with the storyline...

Seriously dude. TOO MUCH. There was still plenty of material to be built on with the heartless, you didn't need these freakin nobodies to make more questions than you answered.

Yeah I get the confusion, I really do, even as a fan of the series, I'm not one of those rabid cos-playing fan bitches that will rip out your intestines if you dare mention a plot hole. I love the gameplay, and I'm a prisoner of nostalgia. Thats how it goes I'm afraid.

The KH plot line as a whole? Fuck it, It was a foot note in the grandscheme of; OMFG I'm kicking ass with disney characters! Gleee.

KH2 highlighted the plot, and that irritated me, KH3 most likely will do the same, and that is sadderest. :(

Damn, "Kingdom Hearts" was a painfully unique game... why did "KH2" fuck it up so hard? The story went from a casually interesting idea to the crossroads of "Whatsgoingonville" and "Nobodycares City". all the important characters suddenly took on new roles, a new, completely backwards and ridiculous, threat is revealed and the main character isn't even playablefor the first hours of the game. Then the story was practically empty, or, atleast it didn't try to connect itself directly with the previous entry, "Chain of Memories" did fuck-all to connect the two and only Donald and Goofy seemed to have any idea what was happening.

So, to answer your question, I don't know either. I don't care. Fuck "KH2" and ESPECIALLY "KH3" if and when it comes out.
Thank you for that, wrong topic for it but thank you anyways, nice to know you have something to yell out at people. *Cough* Too...Much...Sarcasam...

Again, yes, it was a while ago. But, I didn't think about it until I started playing 358/2 Days, so shuddup.

Why is Sora trying to stop Organization XIII from making Kingdom Hearts? The more I play 358/2 Days, the more I root for the Nobodies. All they want are hearts, why are we trying to stop them? Admittedly, Xemnas got a little crazy towards the end, but still.

Also, are we sure they don't have hearts? They seem to convey a lot of emotion (especially Roxas, Naminé, and Xion) for beings without hearts.

Could someone explain this to me?

I'm such a nerd...
1) Because they actually don't want hearts, if you paid attention during 358/2 and KH2 you'll know that they all want to rule the universe using the power of Kingdom Hearts. First you have the traitor Organisation in Chain of Memories, Axel and Saix had their own plans, Xemnas has made his plans very clear, basically everyone except Roxas and in the end Axel.

2) They don't have hearts but as Yen Sid has said they pretend they do by showing emotion.

Well Goofy and Donald were tired of sailing and doing extreme sports so they needed something to kill.

I liked KH2 but then I stopped playing for months and when I started playing again I had completely forgoten how to play.
Oddly I was able to get 4/5 of the way through to the final boss before dieing by taping X and Triangle when prompted.

"I guess I'll play Jak II again." I said after.

As all JRPG's they are killing Satan.

Lookit here, you: That series has lost me entriely in every respect of the word and this topic title was enough to ignite that response in me simply because it seemed like sombebody was about to go through the multiple different explaination labor-pains that I did, which made me sad.
I do admit, it was uneeded, but it was no less an answer then the things everyone before me were rambling. Truth is, there really isn't a clear or certain way to explain it, as it tries to be ridiculously obtuse and let you sort of bring your own conclusions together... which would have been fine if it were a stand-alone game... bit it's not. So I merely left what I got out of it, in the end.
Sounded appropriate to me.

That was cute, though.

I don't care, those black coats are awesome. And for a transgendered slash nothing slash ohgodwhatthefuck Xion is cute.

OT: I used to be able to follow the story pretty accurately, but that was back when the PS2 games were actually new. Now I'm as lost as everybody.

It has been specifically stated that Nobodies don't have hearts, and therefor have no emotions.

However the three characters that you mentioned aren't normal Nobodies. Naminé is the Nobody of Kairi, but in KH1 her heart is in Sora and her body is in a coma. So Naminé lacks the typical body and soul used to make a Nobody. Roxas is different because of how short a time between Sora losing his heart and gaining it back (I have no idea how that affects Roxas, but it does). I don't think Xion is a Nobody. She was created from the memories of Sora so that Organization XIII could gain full control of the keyblade.

So the three characters you mention show emotions because of their unique creation/existance.

Good Guys : Sora + crew
(Oh Snap! Stop the heartless from eating everybody! BashBashBash-Triangle-FIRE!)

Bad Guys : Heartless
(Heartsomnomnomnomnomnomnomnom-Strong-Person-Follow-Get-More-Hearts-omnomnomnomnom)

Neutral Guys : Nobodies

Nobodies cant feel ANYTHING, they are like machines, in that they have a brain and a body and thats about it. They MIMIC emotion based on a reflection of their previous (Heart n all) selves, play through 328/2 days for about 10 minutes and look at Roxas, you'll see what i mean. They 'want' their hearts back because they 'feel empty' otherwise, they are convinced that having a heart = Being 'whole' so they will stop at practically nothing to reach this goal.

Kingdom Hearts = A hell of a lot of hearts = A hell of a lot of heartless = Manipulate keybearer into bonking some heartless

The fact that 'A hell of a lot of heartless' = A hell of a lot of lives doesnt matter, they dont care because they CANT, only a reflection of it at best.

Think about it for a second. If you had absolutly NO emotions, only logic + a body in a bad-ass cloak, and you KNOW that having no emotions is 'wrong' / makes you in-complete wouldnt you try and fix it?

EDIT:
Xion is (Spoiler alert for 328/2 days)
Sora's memories of kairi, she was 'built' by ORG XII to 'absorb' (for lack of a better term) soras memories from roxas so that ORG XII would have a keybearer without the possibilty of it going AWOL on them (like Roxas :p)

They're stealing hearts. Which is evil.

Roxas, Naminé and Xion are all 'special' nobodies. Roxas and Naminé because...uh, no one's quite sure. Possibly because their actual selves (Sora and Kairi respectively) existed at the same time, possibly just because they have uber hearts (Sora and Kairi that is) to begin with.

Xion's special because she's not actually a Nobody, just a Replica.

They're stealing Hearts to get hearts and they only want to open Kingdom Hearts to steal it's heart from ultimate power which is Xehanort's goal so yes they are baddies but a more nuetral baddies than the heartless. Although this isn't explained yet some like those you mentioned and Axel seem to show genuine emotion which has led to me to believe they can earn their wings(I mean hearts) by trying to be human.
