I'm a pipe/cigar man and I proudly use both in public (taking care to be considerate as I do so). I am most unapologetic in my enjoyment therof.

Live and let live, I say. If a man wants to smoke, don't fucking tell him otherwise. As long as I'm not breathing in your smoke, you can smoke as many fucking fags as you like.

I think the big reason that smokers are starting to get the pariah treatment is because of second- and third-hand smoke (the latter newer and a bit more nebulous last I checked). It's similar to how drinking and driving has been portrayed as morally inexcusable but drinking at a party is still OK. It depends on how many people may be affected by the one user.

I personally don't have a problem with smoking even though I choose not to smoke. Three out of four of my grandparents smoke, and two of those three have already passed on from symptoms very likely to come from smoking. I enjoy the smell of smoke and actually like smoking, but I don't because my husband and friends would not appreciate the smell.

There are probably two options available for smokers and non-smokers to coexist peacefully and without either side getting upset. One option is very specific designated smoking areas where even ambient smoke around the area does not mingle with non-smokers' air. This would probably be hard to pull off. The second is electronic nicotine inhalers. These allow for nicotine cartridges and no smoke for non-smokers to get upset about. It might even be a better option for smokers because there are no wonky chemicals in place to keep the nicotine lit (the only ones I ever recall are rat poison and butane). Nicotine is still a poison, however, but at least it's better contained.

Well, its not a smart thing to do. It doesn't make you the devil, but I can certainly see why others have issues with it.

I have always wondered before why people smoke, but I never even looked down on them. That was 2 years ago; now I'm a regular smoker of at least 4 cigs per day.
amen brother. i dont smoke as often as you (im a social smoker and usually a pack of cigarettes for me can last 4 months, or one night of heavy drinking with other smokers...whichever comes first), but even the little amount i smoke results in people openly judging me. i never smoke around people who dont smoke and i always do it outside so as to limit how smokey i smell, but i still get people calling me disgusting and shit like that. ive had girls not want to date me anymore when they find out i smoke socially, despite the fact that they never saw me smoke or smelled it or had any idea i did it, before i told them.

Nothing wrong with what your doing, people just like to feel like they're superior to others, and will use anything to back this up, like cancer research and anti-smoking laws, and this can cause this annoying problem when they convince themselves that others should live like them, why can't we have a "if it doesn't seem to be kicking the crap out of me it's fine" approach to these things?

Wow, so it's almost like how gamers are viewed by society?
What exactly is your point? That gamers aren't viewed in a good light? Wow, ground-breaking stuff there.

OT: I used to smoke cigs regularly; they were nice, people who didn't like it could kiss my ass. And I wasn't even a polite smoker, my shit was in your face even if I had no business smoking in front of you.

YES YOU ARE THE DEVIL AND ALL HIS EVIL!!! lol no, i'm not westboro, you're ok. my cousin smokes and he's all right.

for many years, kids in high school have been brainwashed into thinking that smoking is evil. no, the teacher doesn't come upfront and say that, but yes, that's the impression students who can't think for themselves get. however, students do learn a good deal about the hazards of smoking. i understand you'll get cancer but not from ONE cigarette. maybe if you're a lifetime smoker you'll get lung cancer at 50 or something, but not early on. hell, i've had a couple of cigarettes myself, but that's b/c i was at a party and they were real generous chums.

but 4 cigs a day? that can't be healthy bro. try cutting back, chicks like a guy who's well fit, and you can't be well fit if you're smoking 4 cigs a day!!!

Despite your thoughts on how a "Marlboro livens up the day" you're goddamn addicted, and that's a fact.
Four a day? That doesn't sound like an addiction at all. Christ, I /eat/ four times a day. I watch TV four times a day. I'll sometimes even take a swig of whiskey four times a day. Hell, i've been doing that last one for the last couple months and I stopped two weeks ago and haven't had the urge since. It honestly does just sound like he's just smoking because he wants to.
Nicotine is as addictive as Heroin, alcohol is not. That's like saying I drank 2 sodas a day and wasn't addicted to caffeine, why would drinking two Monsters be any different?

Either way, OP will be able to know 100% if he is addicted by trying not to smoke for a day or two. I've known addicts who have smoked less than that.

Okay, so when I hit "post" it vanished, so if it suddenly double posts, very sorry.

Anyway, first line I agree with 100%, good times, but the rest I'm afraid I'll have to stop there. Earlier I posted a link discussing this very matter, as well as a brief description and quotes to a court case which rebukes the idea that second-hand smoke has any discernible health risks outside of those who are asthmatic, or have an allergy to it.

If you'd like, I'll gladly send you the link, as well as information on the court case itself, just message me, as I don't want to repost the same information here.
Honestly, I don't think it would do anything in changing my opinion at all.

Particularly because I knew a kid in school who was brain damaged from his parents smoking pot around him constantly for his entire life. Granted, it's not the same chemicals, but it's enough to write off the potential of me ever supporting anything close.

If you smoke in public, yeah. I hate you.
With a burning passion.

If not, then you're ok in my book.
