I love many modern games, but I have a PS2 sitting on my shelf that is begging to be used more. I'm currently playing through the first Silent Hill, and plan on continuing the series. Basically I'm looking to expand my horizons of the old games that people fell in love with. I grew up with Nintendo until I was a teenager, then switched to Xbox, so I missed out on all the third party support Sony products had. I also have several PS2 games sitting there. Some of which are Shadow of the Colossus, Manhunt, Destroy All Humans! series, The Suffering, Area 51, Killer 7, and God of War; so my taste in games is pretty diverse. I'm mostly looking for PS1 games, but since the PS2 has such an extensive catalog, feel free to throw those suggestions in there too.

Ape Escape was pretty fucking awesome.

Probably my favourite platforming/stealth/money capturing game of all time.

It was also the first game to fully utilise the analog sticks.

I didn't really own a PS1 long enough to get a hold of the more mature titles (I was eight when I got one. Most of my experiences was either Crash Bandicoot, or Spyro).

However, I do know a few PS2 Titles.

Timesplitters it a rather.....quirky little game my by Edios before it was known as Crysis Londen, Or something like that. It had everything. Horror, action, stealth, and it had quite a few funny jokes. Besides, in what other game can you play as a Dinosaur, chasing around a life-sized gingerbread man in a Chinese restaurant, while firing a minigun and shouting obscenities related to his mother?

All three games are available on the PS2.

Another series I recommend, is the Armored Core series. You play as a mercenary Pilot called a 'Raven'. Ravens pilot huge mechas known as Armored Cores, or ACs. Your mecha is fully customize able down to the paintjob. You can either accept missions and progress through the storyline, Which gives you money to buy more parts, or go into the arena and challenge fellow ravens to one-on-one duels. The only bad part, is that their are a lot of games, with little variation sometimes between each game.

The games are available from the PS1 to the Xbox 360. Because of the dizzying amount of games, I won't list them all here.

Some that haven't been mentioned:

LSD
Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure
D
King's Field
UmJammer Lammy

As for the PS2, play everything that has got "Shin Megami Tensei" attached to the title.

For a guy who tends to hate RPGs, especially JRPGs, I sure did love The Legend of Dragoon.
Although I DO generally like JRPG's, Dragoon is a fantastic game.

It's so badass, it has its' own inventory menu music.

C-12: Final Resistance is a really good one. Sure, it was released at the arse end of the consoles life, but damn it all if it wasn't a completely solid game.
