While some of the animations do look quite nice, you have to realize that a lot of those are canned kill animations, somewhat similar to a QTE.
Yes, I was aware of that which is why I'm still a bit iffy over how many end-kills there are; if there's not many I will be disappoint as it would get very tiresome very quickly.
I just want Bethesda to make them optional. Really seems kinda clunky and immersion breaking to me.

It does look quite a bit better than Oblivion but still not a day one purchase for me, though I'll probably pick it up later on if I spot it for cheap at Gamestop. Next big fantasy rpg I plan to get is Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Just looks like a lot more fun to me.

There is a problem with that video, you never actually see them fight. It is just one or at most two hits, and then a cut. And the werewolves have the exact same animations as a Deathclaw (which annoys me somewhat).

Will the game be an improvement and a good/great? Yes it seems that way. Will it be the Messiah of games that people seem to think it will? I doubt it.

Dammit. I was just about to post this exact video.

I don't believe it for a second. I think (hope) Bethesda is not lying when they say they've overhauled everything, and having watched this, I'm put slightly more at ease. Damn, it's brutal.

I'm very curious about what that dual wielded spell at 0:48 is; it's not shown in use.
lol at least you caught yourself. i posted a thread and everything just to realize someone did it better 2 hours ago.

OT: sooooo cooooooool.

I love the part at 0:08 when dovakin uses a dragon shout to send that troll flying off the cliff. Now if only we could do the same with internet trolls...

Anyway I think it'll be a fantastic game. Of course my thoughts might be a bit tainted, being the giant Bethesda fan boy I am.

It looks pretty good so far. I'm a bit sceptical about the Fallout 3 style canned finishers, but if they vary them enough and there are some options(or mods) regarding how often they happen then I should be fine with them. I think regardless of the quality of the animation and whether or not it's basically more Oblivion, I'm going o love it. This being because I have put more than 200 hours into Oblivion and I'm still enjoying it, and the major complaint people have about Oblivion when compared to Morrowind is that Morrowing was more interesting to explore and the settings were more varied. Looking at the design of Skyrim, it may even be more interesting and fantastic than Morrowind, so if Skyrim=Oblivion+Morrowind+Fallout 3... why the fuck not? I'll play it, and I'll enjoy it.

The combat animations are beautiful--I just really, really hope they've put a similar amount of work into the rest of the animations. Specifically the people--now that you're not locked to their faces when they're talking, body language becomes all the more important.

I want to see some gestures and movement. They'd go so far in pulling TES's NPCs out of the uncanny valley. Assassin's Creed 2 is a good example--the characters were ten times as believable because they'd gesticulate and pace around the room while they talked, rather than standing rooted in one place.

I'm worried because in one of the previous videos, you could see Christopher Plummer doing a brilliant bit of voice acting, with all the expression of an experienced and talented actor, then you saw his character in the game, and he was staring straight at the player with his arms at his sides. Totally broke the immersion there.

Well, I'm not too worried. Doubtless basically everything else about the game will be fantastic, and there'll probably be some animation mods after a few months to fix things right up.

Here's some great animations Beth have been working on since Oblivious.

They mentioned that the first one's been fixed. Supposedly there's a proper amount of flailing now. The second one just looks like a typical pathfinding bug, like the guards that would hump crates in Assassin's Creed. I wouldn't worry about these.

I am neither a troll, nor a hater. Just goes to show what your mentality is.

Well I could but then I'd REALLY be trolling. It's a shame too, I had so many nits left to pick. Tip of the hat to ya on the edit. You don't want to attract extremes anyways, usually turns into a shouting match.

Oh, my bad. I misunderstood. It appeared to me that you were comparing devoted fans of a video game to insane religious cultists in an attempt to troll said fans. Oh, wait... that's exactly what you did, which has nothing to do with what he was talking about and only served as an inflammatory, off-topic derailment attempt.

What am I even doing? Why am I still typing? I'm taking my own advice.

Man, people will hate on anything popular. When Half-Life 2: Episode 3 comes out in 2344, haters will be all over it saying that Half-Life sucks because it has no multiplayer or whatever.

Plus other games that are out now are:

Gears of War 3 -> Not too bad
Battlefield 3 -> CoD 4
Modern Warfare 3 -> CoD 4.2
RAGE -> Fallout 3 except boring and 5 hours long.

As for Skyrim's direct competition, Dark Soul's all I hear is good things. But I haven't played it yet.

The animations look pretty cool but eh I don't really care long as they aren't eye bleeding bad. Yes people will hate on popular stuff. Battlefield 3 is alot different from any COD cept the single player which could have come from any modern war shooter.

I liked rage not really any re playability but fun.

Making a fool of yourself from the looks of it. Double points for butting in on someone else's conversation? I was talking to bvengeed and bevenged understood the point I was making without getting his panties in a bunch like you have. I mean him no disrespect when I say that, I salute him for getting my point and being mature about it.

You look to be one of those extremists so I can't imagine this will go well. I only hope you'll consider what I have to say. You have a skyrim avatar, wearing a crown and every fourth post on this page is yours. You also plainly deem yourself "a devoted fan". You've clearly got a horse in the race here. I also enjoy the elderscrolls and have since morrowind, however, I would caution people not to use inflammatory language and to maintain a semblance to reason. That's all. If there's going to be flames, let's not be the ones to light them eh? You might find that ironic, that was the entire point.

Speaking of your choice of words, you do realize that "fan" is short for "fanatic" correct, and when you use phrases like "unbelievers" what does that imply? That you are a "believer"? What does that even mean? So you can see why the parallels are easy enough to draw right? When you are trying to actively engage people with opposing opinions it helps to look like you might be reasonable. Acting like a crazy person only invites the other party to act like a crazy person in response. No progress is made.

I don't suppose you're going to let me go with an "I understand, when you put it that way it seems pretty reasonable" are you? But you see, this is long winded and not half as much fun. Eh if it upset you, truly, I apologize, but you should also grow a thicker skin. When all is said and done a lot of naysayers will have their say at this game and some of them will be very incisive. You're going to get yourself either banned or shave years off your life from anger. I mean no disrespect and issue no sarcasm when I say I wish you luck with that. I hope that you enjoy the game as much as you expect to, but try to avoid putting it on a pedestal. That's unhealthy.

Oh, wait... that's exactly what you did, which has nothing to do with what he was talking about and only served as an inflammatory, off-topic derailment attempt.
Not really, no. I hope you can see that now. If you don't well thanks for reading all this shit anyhow.

That video contains brief snippets and premade animations, mostly finishing moves.

Wait till you see the actual gameplay. The characters all move exactly like in Fallout 3. And I do mean, exactly. Many of the animations were clearly copied over entirely. For example, the werewolves are just deathclaws with some fur stuck on.

Love and defend the game all you like, it looks like it'll be a good game for what it is, but don't try and tell people that the animation is good. It isn't. The characters all move like puppets. I've seen games from 2007 with better animation than Skyrim.

I love how you were having a conversation on a public forum that I butted into.

I love how you call me a name and then tell me to be mature like other people.

I love how you ignored the point of my post.

I love how I'll be not feeding the trolls anymore even more.

Why have gamers appropriated the term 'Haters'? You wanna roll with the gangstas, but do they so far think you're too white and nerdy?

OT: That telekinesis spell had me..um..spellbound. I'll be playing a juggernaut of a spellsword, most likely. Throwing people around like ragdolls sounds like a lot of fun.
