Yeah yeah, heard it all before. It's always easier when it's someone else's money, right?
What a beautiful, well reasoned, logical rebuttal.

Oh, wait, no, you were just being a giant jackass.

Remember, OP, I never said to not buy anything, all I said was to do the math and carefully consider the choices people have listed here.

You mentioned a job placement program, a job that is being promised to you from a program you have yet to attend, let alone finish. Your request went from $1,000 to a suggested $1,400 to a high watermark of around $2,000. Your hypothetical purchase has effectively doubled, and it was all fun and games until you said:

"Credit card"

Who knows? Maybe you can afford it. Maybe you have a great paying job right now. But whenever anyone mentions maxing out their credit card, I consider it a red flag. Again, I'm sure you can afford it. What do I know? But I don't know, so I'm suggesting just a moment of consideration. All I'm asking is that you do the math again. What can it hurt?

I'm really not that big of a Mac guy, especially if the school is telling me windows.
I find it odd that the school is pushing Windows, since most 3D/VFX houses tend to have row upon row of Mac Pro's sitting in their offices. I mean, if that's what they are telling you, great... but... yeah, odd.
