... Being an uncultured southerner (and a foreign one at that), I apparently do not understand the spirit of a Yorkshire pudding, despite the fact that I get a hard-on just thinking about eating one filled with mash, mushy peas and lashings of gravy...(!)

So where exactly on that bread plate is the yorkshire pudding, furthermore what the hell is this pudding of the "across the pond" gods? Is this just like a weird friggin' name for brown gravy?

...

The 'bread plate' is the Yorkshire pudding.

I just...

I can't...

If anybody needs me, I'll be in the angry dome.

Fuck yeah, Yorkshire Puddings! On a depressing note, I will be eating pizza tonight. Had roast beef when I was home on Friday though.

I think what you're calling the bread plate is the yorkshire pudding. It is glorious.
Also, on the subject of the food thing, americans do pies wrong- pies need gravy and meat, and are a main course. Not filled with fruit and served as desert.

My Family generally has roast on a monday for some reason... It also, much to my disdain, usually lacks yorkshire pudding!

This is what I think of when I hear the word pudding.

For some reason the word pudding is just wrong for a bread. Yorkshire breadbowl, now that I can dig!

As an Australian who has an English mother I can safely say, yorkshire pudding is absolutely fucking amazing.

The thing about Yorkshire puddings (my mum is from Newcastle and makes the best ever) is down to quality. Shop bought is blasphemy against their good name and amateurs that want praise because they get the shape right just need to be shot.

I am almost scared to attempt the dizzying heights of excellence required to make even a GOOD Yorkshire pudding, let alone the perfect one, but it has to be fresh. I can almost forgive the Quorn roast if you can get the Yorkshire right, but I doubt your vegetarian arms are strong and agile enough to whip the batter into shape, sadly condemning you to mediocre Puds FOREVER!!!

Huge, saucer sized, it makes no odds, as long as they're properly cooked right through, slightly crispy around the rim and can hold enough gravy to drown in. Here endeth the lesson!
