So I find myself enjoying Matt Smith as the Doctor. After a couple of episodes to bring the Doctor back from the brink of Megalomania that Russel T. Davies had taken him we now are having some fun with the Doctor again. Seriously, great Doctor Who when he calls discovering vampire in 1518 Venice, "Christmas!" You know we're having fun with the Doctor again.
So after he pulls out an old library card, instead of psychic paper, with William Hartnel on the picture, that would be the first Doctor, it got me thinking about my first Doctor.
Additionally, my wife likes to harrass me about the show, and I brought up how I came across Doctor Who in the first place.
So here it is:
When I was much younger, not saying how old I was or am now, I found a listing in the local TV guide section of the newspapaer. It was on Chicago PBS, this was for Doctor Who, Planet of the Spider's part 2. So, I ask my brother to tape it since it was on at 10:30 central time. So I watch this classic episode where this strange old man outwits a planet ruled by a giant spider and dies, seemingly. But no, there's more he's become this bizarre giant scarf wearing mad scientist (Tom Baker) and I'm completely hooked.

So I ask the fans of Doctor Who, the Whovians if you will. (Yes thats what the fans are called, I think we need a better name.) Who is your first Doctor.

Christopher Eccleston was my first Doctor

Gotta love Tom Baker's manic grin though

David Tennant is still my favourite though

Christopher Ecceston was the first Doctor I knew, as I didn't get into it until the 2005 series. David Tennant was my favourite, but now I think Matt Smith is even better.

Jon Pertwee is the one I actually remember watching the most, though it reruns whilst was Sylvester McCoy that was in the new episodes.

The first Doctor I ever saw for an episode of Doctor Who was Jon Pertwee, it was a video, the Dalek invasion of London, when I was a kid.
The first doctor I was around for to be aired on TV was that magnificent-looking (And superb actor) Christopher Eccleston.
Hard to choose a favourite, as I've only seen bits of the older Doctor's seasons.

I remember seeing my Dad watch the older episodes when I was younger, though I've no idea who the Doctor I first saw was. So I'm going to have to go with Christopher Eccleston.

My first Doctor was the Tenth Doctor. As an introduction into the series it was certianly the best Doctor for me, and I'd say that Doctor10 is MY Doctor but... I'm being ever so slightly swayed to thinking that Doctor11 may become my FAVOURITE Doctor as he seems to combine all the best qualities of many Doctors that have come before him while being something new at the same time.
But I agree, you never forget your first Doctor.

My first doctor was Tom Baker. Still my favourite too. You just knew a man who wore a scarf like that was dangerous

Yes. Yes he is.

[sub]Oops, already done that joke[/sub]

One of my first real memories of Who was Robot back on a 6 inch black and white screen back in '74, just as Bohemian Rhapsody came out, so Tom Baker was my first Who. I still remember the absolute terror that gripped me.

One of my good friends was there for An Unearthly Child though.
