You are an advanced alien race and you discover a primitve species what would you do?

i would try to learn the alien culture and see if its culture is anything like earth and always wear a suit that stops microbes for getting out of it or into it, at least until i have developed a vaccine for the most dangerous deceases for both them and us. then when that is done try and develop some kind of cooperation between us and them.

If they see me and attack: Steal anything of value they have, then bomb them to Oblivion (although, if this was about 15 years ago, It'd have to be bombed to Daggerfall)
See me and don't attack: Diplomacy, see if they care, then maybe help them, or leave.
Don't see me: Study, slowly integrate a small part of or species into theirs, then after maybe 150 years, take them back.

What would I do or what would Humanity do?

Because honestly I've thought about this, and first contact from my point of view goes one of three ways.

1) They are more advanced then us, we try to look as inoffensive as possible, beg, buy, borrow, steal everything we can from them in a desperate rush to catch up and address the power imbalance, possibly getting ourselves wiped out in the process.

2) They are roughly the same level as use tech wise, we'll attempt to play nice, trade, etc, but we'll likely end up in a war with them over something pointless. Pretty the same way governments work on Earth.

3) Less advanced, we'd end up conquering them, oh we wouldn't call it that, but it's what would happen without a doubt. It would start small "helping" them with little things, but over time we'd own or control everything on their planet.

Run. I may be advanced enough to have mastered the space travel necessary to Earth in the first place, but dude...humans? I imagine we're pretty scary motherfuckers; all the constant murdering of one another and whatnot.

I'd enslave them with my advance mind control technology until some of their people become immune to it, then I'd lead a man who isn't going to be born for many centuries to a piece of this technology then force him to kill one of the few people left that he can trust.

On a more serious note I'd study them until I'm sure I could land without them trying to kill me the instant they see me, if I succeed I'd advance them without sending them to far forward and be their guide to the universe once they achieve space travel.

If they're sentient but constantly at war and have no hot women, I would make clones of my species and fill their heads with everything they need to know and then disgiuse them as this race. I would continue doing this until there is only one real member of the species and then my race would be like SUPRISE!

If I was a super advanced race why would I need to eliminate humanity? I mean what threat do they pose? Depends though, do I want resources or do I have the machines to just make my race anything they want? Is the earth or humans valuable to me? Do I have a religious or philisophical code that causes me to kill or treat with care everything I see? Do I reguarly come across alien races or is this a race thing for me? If I do come across races reguarly then do I see them as unique?

My personnal answer is to observe them but not to interfere unless something grossly unethical is going on and the specesis follows something similiar to human logic. Prehaps iniate contact but just to let them know you are there not else.

this would influence it, if they are 'too' alien, it is easier to just kill them, or make them slaves. If they are humanoid, they will provoke more compassion with us, humans.

Depends entirely on the state of my homeworld and what kind of world the newly discovered species is on. Odds are, probably colonization, as world habitable for our kinda life are rare.... IF my species cannot really survive on the planet, probably trade natural resources for technology.

Anyone read The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K LeGuin?

The basic idea is that our earth and several other earths around the galaxy have become sufficiently technologically advanced to make contact and travel through interstellar space. Interestingly us and the aliens are all essentially human with small differences.

Anyway, when a new planet with intelligent yet technologically primitive (like our earth now) "humans", the consortium of earths sends a single representative to convince the new earth that it should join the consortium. The consortium is for trade and technology and culture sharing only. A single representative is sent so that the consortium will not seem a threat, since they can kill or imprison the representative at any time with no consequence - there will just be a new one in five years.

I think that's a cool idea. In my estimation if we figure out interstellar space travel then our society and technology must be at a place where war and human suffering are relatively extinct, so conquering and especially enslavement seem pretty silly.

It's a good book btw. It's actually more about how sex influences society - the humans on the new earth are sexually inactive and neither male or female physically except for a couple days every month.
