Revisit the junctioning system in FF8 and make it practical.
I loved the instant gratification of equipping a spell and watching their levels rise, but I hated the whole Draw system.
I also liked how the Aeons were their own playable character from FFx and sort of in XII
I would stick with turned-based systems, but what I'd really like to see is the characters engaging the enemies when in fight-mode. I mean, at least circling, feining moves, and actually looking like they were in a fight, even if it were only an aesthetic matter.
Also, I'd love to see the Final Fantasy style of olde come back; Kinda like in FF9, but that seemed almost more FFTactics-ey than FF1-ey.

Speaking of FF2/4 I'd definatley have the main character designed after Cecil (the only manly, at least for part of the game, main character they ever made (he was a pretty cool guy, eh slaughtered wizards, burned down villages and didn't afraid of anything)) and fuck it let's go full retro and bring back the crystals too, you know what there's 11 other games we'd just go and pick out all the good parts from those and make a game out of it.

Actually getting around to remaking FF7 like everyone else is saying might be a better idea. You'll be richer than Micro$oft.
Hand it off to someone who knows what the hell he's doing. I've never played an FF game (want to though), and I don't want to be held responsible by the fanboys for somehow ruining the entire series (and you know some people will get one bad game and claim that).
I'd take the system from X, but change the sphere grid into trees, for specialization, instead.

I'd like to see a spell fusion system, where a couple of casters cast spells on an enemy, and a special move comes from it.
And 4 or 5 people fighting at a time, only 3 is a turn off for me.
