hello fellow escapists, i was watching a movie recently (lethal weapon 3 i think) and you see a teenage boy shaving and his father telling him he is doing it all wrong, he says you are supposed to go with the hair. however, i find that if you shave against it, you get a smoother shave. your thoughts?

I believe you are supposed to go with it, in order to avoid getting ingrown hairs.

I do both. Against the first shave to cut it closer then with the grain because it helps seal your pores and the hair follicles (that might not actually happen but it works for me).

I go with, or rather down.. first, which doesn't really get much. Then after I've done that I go over again but against (which is a sort of up+left for me). It doesn't seem to go if you go with them...

On one side of my face I go with the hair, on the other I go against the hair.
It just feels natural to do it that way, when the shaver is in my hand.

When I go against the hair it really irritates my skin, but it doesn't show for a couple of days, so I do it sometimes.

But I go with the hairs most of the time.

To be honest I don't shave very often I prefer to have a bit of a beard, but when I do shave every red moon, I just tend to cleave away in all possible directions.

Depends how long/thick your beard is. Mine is quite thick and of a reasonable length, I find if I go against the hair first then it just gets caught in the blade and get pulled out( bloody painful). So I start with the hair to make it really short then go against to get the close shave.

Considering everytime I shave that I get enough redspots on the lower end of my neck that I looked like I was hanged by a harsh rope, I haven't tried going the other way....interesting o.o.

You get smoother shave going against, but you also get rashes and ingrowing hairs so i go with the hairs

I shave in random directions to keep my facial hair on its toes. (I use an electric razor.)
