Assist them to advance AND claim some of their women.

Good guys rarely get what's deserved, this time is different!

Depends: How green is their skin, how great are their space boobs, and how many belly buttons do they have?

You fly down onto an alien planet in your advanced spaceship, the main sentient life being weaker, less developed, and basically no match for you. You could wipe out the entire race with your power, or help them develop into a more intelligent race. You could simply leave and let them develop normal, or make them worship you as the god you know you are, ensalve them, take their women, build the city of R'lyeh and rule with insanity! MWAHAHAHAA!!!!!

So given this unimaginable power, what would you do?

Well, I'd probably take a somewhat long term view of things. I see no real point to being a putz for the sake of being a putz, and at the same time I think the whole Star Trek "Prime Directive" thing is kind of ridiculous.

If the race is inferior enough to me to see me as being akin to a god, I'd probably give them a mild jumpstar in technology. We're talking a step or two, not introducing what I have. Then I'd leave.

I figure later when other space explorers came (from whatever organization I'm a part of) they will have progressed over the centuries to the point of being inferior to us, but on a level where we can deal with them. At which point I'd probably look towards an "Uplift" type arrangement where my race would share our technology with them and act as their patron in exchange for a cut of whatever that race finds/develops on it's own as a spacefaring race.

Very similar to some of Larry Niven's books. It's not a perfect arrangement, but I think it's probably the most workable one for this kind of relationship.

I know myself well enough to realize I'd make a totally craptastic god, so I probably woudn't even try.

I'm sorry but how could I possibly have power over them? It's first of all, a whole freakin' planet. Second, I'm 5' 4" so not exactly intimidating.
Thirdly, I don't know their language and dont' even know if I have the body parts to make their sounds or gestures.

At first I try not to step on any toes, then I observe them from a distance and once in awhile throw some tech (i.e. fire) their way. Those nights can be long and cold without electricity :p After awhile I might make my presence known and assuming I have the lifespan of a God I might stick around to watch them develop. Once in a while I might throw in a miracle of divine intervention or a cataclysm to spice things up. :p Otherwise I would just watch them from a distance to see them develop on their own merits. Standard Prime Directive activities.

Let me consult the Prime Directive... I do nothing and leave. Man, that's boring.

Actually I'd probably try to avoid disturbing their society. Giving them technology will probability end up badly and killing them would be pointless. I suppose I might play superhero and help the little people but I know in my heart that'd probably end badly too. *sigh* I was god once, and I was doing a good job until everyone died.
Yeah, I saw that, Bender. You were doing a good job till they all died.

I think you're right. Disturbing a primitive society with advance technology would not end well. Even revealing yourself probably wouldn't end well.

So, boring answer: Leave and tell our society of them so we can observe from afar and maybe one day bring them into our fold as allies.

Fun answer: Make like Iron Man and be a hero. You know that I have a powerful exoskeleton battle armor on my ship. I'd never leave the station without it.

Even more answer: Make like a super villain and conquer them all. Then, use them as slave labor to build a powerful army in my advanced refineries and factories that I would then build. An army that will one day conquer the galaxy. Mwahahaha!
That nuclear powered exoskeleton battle armor has a million and one uses I tell ya.

Share the technology, so long as they realize it was me who gave it to them. :\

...and install a failsafe on everything I give them to self destruct or de-activate, if they decide to use it in a way that I don't want them to.

Are their women attractive, or little more than barely evolved marsupials? If I'm going to be idolized by a lesser developed civilization, I'd like to know that there are solid perks, otherwise...I'm off to Risa!

Douglas Adams would disagree with this "unimaginable power".

The available worlds looked pretty grim. They had little to offer him because he had little to offer them. He had been extremely chastened to realize that although he originally came from a world which had cars and computers and ballet and Armagnac, he didn't, by himself, know how any of it worked. He couldn't do it. Left to his own devices he couldn't build a toaster. He could just about make a sandwich and that was it. There was not a lot of demand for his services.
So much for ruling the world. No one even knows how to make a toaster >.>

i feel like i would sneak away and leave the planet pretty quickly. somehow i don't feel comfortable being elevated to god status, maybe i'm just afraid some1 will try to challenge my deity-ness and get me killed
