Nerd and proud. Everyone is a little bit nerdy. Everyone has a nerd-like obsession, whether it be music, or video games, or movies, or who knows what.
We are both of the understanding that you can be both a nerd and a cool kid at the same time right? Unless your idea of a nerd is someone totally lacking in social skills... We're not all like that, we're not all like what you've seen in comedies or really bad movies. Some of us play sports, go out on the town and get drunk, have a fun time with friends while socializing and well getting out of the house.DanielBrown said:Not a nerd, or a geek, and have never been called one. I guess it's because I hung out with the cool kids way before I got into gaming, which is my only nerdy hobby. Had a few friends who were nerds, though I never felt comfortable around them.
Why? Why is it a week defense to claim your proud of what you are... Should I not be proud? Should I be trying to mend my geekish ways? Thats like saying " Claiming that your proud to be a fan of -insert football team here- is a weak defense mechanism"... Why? How... Doesn't really make sense. Though maybe I'm an idiot or not cool enough to understand it.DanielBrown said:Claiming that you're proud to be a nerd seems like a pretty weak defense mechanism to me though.
Its a sports channel that's mostly for PPV live events and stuff I think.Jarl said:I consider myself a "nerd", but only insofar that my hobbies include video games and trading card games (well, MTG). I don't really label myself or others, though. If others want to label me, I let them. Doesn't really impact who I am.
Also, because the Captcha asked for it, what the hell is ESPN? (If you tell me to google it I will eat you)
Hehe, you got a bit hung up on the cool kids thing there. It was ment to be ironical, but I failed on the delivery(it's really fucking late here, cut me some slack). Anyways; every person is unique, sure, whatever, but there's still the general stereotypes that is associated with the words. Though they may not be true for all a lot of them still are.Sovvolf said:We are both of the understanding that you can be both a nerd and a cool kid at the same time right? Only real difference is, we have geeky hobbies, playing DnD, tabletop gaming and other pretty geeky things. That doesn't make us all socially inept.

Indeed, its is equally quite late here and I did jump the gun a little when I replied to you. Realised that it may have been a little out of order on my part but it was a little too late to go back on it.DanielBrown said:Hehe, you got a bit hung up on the cool kids thing there. Being black is still used and certain words are considered an insult too, would saying your proud to be black be an equally weak defense? Basically saying, I am who I am and honestly happy about it. Honestly, is accepting and being complacent or happy with who you are that weak of a defense? Should we really have to defend it? Can't we just enjoy being who we are?DanielBrown said:As for the defence mechanism; nerd/geek is still used as and considered an insult. "Football fan" isn't, so I still consider it to be silly when people start proclaiming about how proud they are to be nerds.
Don't think I've heard anyone being called "black" as an insult. If you had talked about the n-word(can't even type it without fearing to get a warning!)it would've been a bit clearer, but I still haven't seen a black person claiming he's proud to be a n*****, apart from these "gangstas", however, they hardly count as they are the very definition of silly.Sovvolf said:Being black is still used and considered an insult too, would saying your proud to be black be an equally weak defense? Also, depending on your club, being a football fan can be an insult.
