That's too bad, but I still wouldn't blame it all on Blizzard.

Yeah, when my account got hacked I had to keep pestering before they did something. If you keep doing it they'll send you a form asking you to reveal some "private" information as well as ask for a copy of your driver's license to show that you are indeed the original owner of the account. Nothing is lost, just keep fighting.

Got my Battle.net account hacked earlier in the year, just as I was about to quit playing WoW for a while. I sent three mails to Blizzard and they froze the account and let me change the password. Now that I begun playing again everything was working fine, I only lost some gold (~3000) and gained a full set of epic gear the hacked had grinded for my character to more effectively farm gold with it =P All in all it took 4-5 days to get my account back back then.

I never provided any other proof of ownership than my security question and it's answer though, even though I needed the password reset to get sent to another mail address than the one used for my Battle.net account (as the hacker stole my Gmail account as well)

Keep calling customer support. There are ways to prove who actually owns the account (unless you used fake information, in which case enjoy your 100 dollar loss).

this is what happens when you play MMORPG's

they're just time wasters anyways

look at the bright side, now that you can't play it, that's another $15/month in your pocket!

Actually you can easily get key logger viruses simply by going to websites, like this one for example, its not necessarily his fault. Hell somebody with one could have sent him an email and fucked his computer. Dont be so quick to blame people for something they may never have had any real control over.
actually if u have a decent anti virus and use something like noscript u cant.
Plus who would open an email attachment from someone you dont know.

Pretty much this. Instead of posting this, you should be on the phone with blizzard getting your account back. An account is never permanently shut down unless YOU we're the one who did the stuff breaking ToS.

Unlike other games which provide valuable and tangible real-world benefits.

Account Security for a WoW account is as easy as downloading a program for you Iphone or Android and linking it to your WoW account. It's a random number generator thing (I don't know compu-talk) and requires you input the number generated, which is generated every 30 or so seconds and only the person with your USB drive/phone progam can login to your account.

Seriously it's prbably the best idea Blizzard's ever had.

someone could argue that playing a ton of bioware games helps them in math (and gets them into D&D)

EDIT: but there is a difference between entertainment, and a time-sink

^that.

Hackers don't happen randomly for wow accounts. You did something dumb, somewhere down the line.

He doesn't have good anti-virus then. He did something dumb.

It is his fault for not securing his computer.

I wanna join this 'fuck Blizzard' stuff! Everything they make sucks!!! And bear in mind that's actually very few games anyway.

And of course, Bobby K is the biggest douche in the business. Even the most rabid Blizzard supporter would testify to that.
