Book, The Way of Kings.
Why because it is amazing at describing humans and how we rule. But it is also a excellent example on leasership, and a cool story.
And why not give who ever finds it a complelety Inaccurate idea of what our Culture, technology and world were like.
That's right whoever finds ot keep looking for thoes magical shard blades.

I'm tempted to say "A Confederacy of Dunces". I haven't read it, but I think that's a pretty apt title for human history.

Though, just in case that book wouldn't be a good choice, I'll instead go with "Cat's Cradle" by Kurt Vonnegut. It's one of the most thoughtful books I've read, it really has a lot to say about our society, which makes it good for this task. It's also one of my favourite books ever, and I recommend it to everyone, even aliens.

Spec Ops: The Line

Whoever finds it should fear us for the monsters that we are.

Well, there's my depressing thought of the day, moving on.

"Airplane", the movie. So whatever finds us will be absolutely convinced that we as a species were bat-shit crazy.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Just so that it'll become some kind of arc from a lost race and space-faring future-aliens will be spending thousands, maybe millions of hours trying to decipher what it all means. For their hard work they'll get a watered-down biology lesson regarding the life-cycle of butterflies.

Hmmm...World War Z. Yes of course, everything in it is fictional, but it's the most global, human book I've ever read. It delves into the darkness and negativity of human nature, as well as the nobility, compassion, and selflessness of us as well. Humanity is a crazy lot that's capable of wonderful and terrible things, and I believe WWZ shows that. I'm sure that "The Good War," the book WWZ is based on, would work just as well, but I haven't read it.

Or Clockwork Orange because awesome.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
My Little Pony Frienship is Magic, probably one of the few things we have made in awhile that would't make who ever found it think we were assholes... although they would think we were magical talking horses... hmm.

Hm...I don't know. A Clockwork Orange perhaps? It shows the worst of the worst of humanity in a near explicit detail and in a brilliant way. But showing just the bad side, I don't know...maybe District 9 because it's great and it shows both the good aspects and the bad aspects...or The Tree of Life...though whoever finding would probably have a big difficulty understanding it.

I take issue with 'understand it as it was intended to be understood', because nobody has that ability other than the creator of the book/film/game. Everyone else just interprets it their own way. To understand it as it was intended to be understood, this being would essentially have to be the same as its creator in every way, to have the same knowledge and attitudes and context as them. And if you're saying that will somehow be made to happen, then I'd say I should logically choose not the media I'm most proud of but the one that needs most contextual information to understand, because that will result in the being that reads/watches/plays it gaining most knowledge about our society.

BOOM, overthinking

I'd pick Minecraft, while not perfect it's a great example of the human experience and meaning or lack there of of our existence.

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare. No other work so utterly captures all the different aspects of humanity.
