The thing is if you do something in the past it would instantly change the present meaning that this has always been that way meaning that the time machine would have been known about before it was invented meaning you wouldnt have been the one to take it back to that time meaning it never went back to then.

Wait until I'm old, gather the blueprints for all new inventions then travel back to the current date.

Thus I'd be advancing technology 50 or 60 years at a time until I'm satisfied, and I can set myself up as the inventor of it annoying the hell out of the real inventors by "inventing" their thing a year or so before them.

I know this is supposed to be from the time traveler's perspective, but it's an endless paradox, cos it already happened and that is also the only flaw of Back to the Future.

Yeah but you don't know you created an alternate reality, or even that you killed your grandfather, cos it already happened before you were born, thus causing you to be born in the alternate reality you created.
