Yeah, I know you get a lot of 'if you had one game you could ' threads. Just... I didn't see this exact thread on page one, so bear with me.

You have just received a letter in the mail from a video game developer. Most of it is just fluff, but the part that really catches your eye is that if you write back to them, then they will remake any game of your choice. And if they don't own the rights to the series, they also happen to have permission from everyone to remake anything.

Since the developer is Japanese, then it'll be released in Japan first, but there will be an official English version released, and it will be for a console you own (and possibly a few others). For sake of argument, the PC counts as a 'console', but if it's released on both PCs and consoles then it won't just be a straight port. If it had a multiplayer aspect without online functionality, you can have it go online or not at your discretion. And, the best part is, it definitely won't suck in any way, shape or form.

What's the catch? You only get to pick one game, and it can't have been made during this console generation (so only stuff from 2005 or earlier). Which game do you tell those devs to remake?
~~~~~~
Edit: FAQ time!
Question 1: What is a 'remake', according to me?
Answer:
-Graphics are brought up to par for the current console generation.
-Sound effects are improved, and music is remastered but kept mostly the same.
-If the original translation sucked, it's improved in this version.
-If there was no voice acting (not even grunting), it's put in.
-Some extra features are added, but none of them detract from the original experience.
All of these points (except the last one) can be opted out of, however. You don't have to go into this much detail if you don't want to, but I like to see people put thought into their posts... just sayin'.
~~~~~~
Question 2: Only Japanese games?

Answer: That's not what I meant. What I meant was, you can remake anything, and it'll appear in both English and Japanese. At the same time.
~~~~~~
Question 3: What if I have lots of games I like?
Answer: Okay, my official answer might have been a bit heavy-handed. So I'll go with this: You can post as many games as you want remade, but I'd also like you to specify which one you want the most.
well i don't know what you count as a "remake" but I would definitely remake the graphics in KoTOR
dont change the story, but make the interface a little more DA:O style
past that I'd make it PC only and crank up the difficulty(says the guy who has dumped a shit ton of hours into it.....)
I'm technically cheating because if they remake one, they'll reamake at least two, but the Gen III pokemon.
Not really cause they're even good (I think they're the weakest of the Gens) but just cause tehy havent been remade yet, and its about time they were.
However, if I had to pick one, I'd choose Emerald. Though Devs would remake Ruby and Sapphire.
Left 4 Dead, I liked it very much, but I feel it could have been a more realistic zombie survival game, where its more about the longevity of survival in such a dire situation
If Skyrim doesnt do what I want it to...Morrowind. If it does however...
Neverwinter Nights. A version for console that works is just....heaven...(One of the few PC games I heavily played)
Am I really only allowed to do a Japanese game?
I was thinking to remake Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy with graphics rivaling Heavy Rain and a third act that doesn't suck on toast. Also, the decisions made in the game actually have an impact on the story instead of being virtually ancillary and having more branches in the storyline. Same control scheme and general gameplay, though fights could be a bit more exciting than PAR.
No, you're allowed to remake anything. But it will be released in both English and Japanese, and in every major region (Japan, America, Europe and Australia) at exactly the same time. Good question, though. I've stuck it in the main post for everyone else's convenience.
Legend of Dragoon. And based on those points given, here's why:
-Graphics: The game had that FFVII boxy feeling when you saw the characters. With today's consoles and cool graphics, they could look way better. And I'm not talking about the character design alone. Maps, fight scenes, animations, etc. could also be updated. It would look awesome.
-Sound effects: Simply put, music would be remastered. The game already had a theme song so...yeah, remastered version.
-Translation: Original one wasn't that bad, so I guess that's fine.
-Voice acting: Yeah, the original game had SOME voice acting. It was one of the first games that tried that (For the PS1, mind you). The only problem is that, well, the voice acting sucked. Characters always felt so emotionless and dumb. Heck, I think there were times where they were talking and their lips (Mouth, whatever) weren't moving at all. So that would definitely be the one thing I would fix big time. No, scratch that. I would start from scratch. The last one cannot be fixed; it ca only be disposed of.
-Extra features: More side quests. I believe the game only had one official side quest. That is, a quest that truly has nothing to do with the plot and that it forces you to derail from your original goal in order to accomplish said side quest.
Yes. This is what I like to see. People going into detail about their favourite old games and how they could be done better.
Oh yeah, my personal choice: Earthbound.
-Graphics: One major criticism of the game was that its graphics sucked. So, make them better, but keep the original cartoony feel - don't take Sonic Team's route of being too realistic.
-Sound: Definitely update the sound effects, but all the stuff that plays along with stuff like 'The Spiteful Crow pecked at your eyes!', keep the same. Remaster (most of) the music, too.
-Translation: As in the original English/Japanese releases, including all the character changes between the two regions (so the Runaway Five's leaders are Mario and Luigi rather than Jake and Elwood Blues.)
-Voice acting: Don't use any. I mean it.
-Added gameplay elements/sidequests: Perhaps you could add in a way to get Ness' Gutsy Bat in a way other than through 1/128 drops, but keep the 1/128 drop for the people who really want it. Also, everyone else's Magicant (without the 'class change' that went with Ness.)
Metal Gear.
I've always thought it would be awesome to play Snake's first mission in HD.
Speedball 2, I loved this at the time, (and still do) and it wouldn't take much to make it shiny and nice for a re-run.
Floor 13, quite relevant in this day and age of shady government departments.
It made you make ethical choices on who and how you kept tabs on groups or individuals, who you smear campaigned and who you decided to interogate or make disappear.
The best way would be through XBL or PSN downloads.
The entire Metal Gear series, in MGS4-level graphics, with a variety of different mechanics for each game in keeping with their originals.
Also, probably Deus Ex. It's really hard to play now, with the dated graphics and control systems. I guess I'm out of touch with the Deus Ex generation.
(I'd say Half-Life, but Black Mesa:Source seems to be close enough. Hopefully Human Revolution will be similar to DE too.)
MediEvil with non-shitty controls. Or The Mark of Kri with a non-shitty camera
Or better yet, a MediEvil remake with The Mark of Kri's combat system. *drools*
Deus Ex.
Mainly just the graphics and speech. Some of the voice acting in that game is so horrible it's brilliant, but some of it is just plain horrible.
