We all know Domestic Abuse is a serious thing and is pretty bad. I'm not trying to detract from that but the way its publiscised is beginning to annoy me.

In any advert that's trying to raise awareness for abusive situations its always the man who is abusing the woman/the children/the pet or whatever else is in the room. But why is it that these adverts never (that I've seen) show the woman being the culprit instead of the victim?

You'd think living in the century that we do that people would realise (especially the awareness raising people) that anyone can be the culprit of domestic abuse, not just angry men. Of course if all adverts are considered one universe then the men could be beating the women because women seem to embarass them at every given oppurtunity, even in situations that if the roles were reversed the man would be considered a monster or, at the very least, a bit of a jerk. I've even hard conversations (by both men and women) that go something along the lines of 'a man being beaten up by a woman? what a pansy' ... I may have used less colourful language but you get the idea.

The point I'm trying to make is that it seems to be a bit of a stigma for men to suffer at the hands of an abusive woman which is insane. This can be applied to any situation where men or women are looked down upon for something which someone of the other gender could do and get away with, if you want to add your own examples, feel free.

I guess I'm wondering if I'm alone in this thought and what you all think.

I actually agree and have thought about such things before.

Glad to know I'm not the only person concerned about stigmas against both women AND men.

It gets worse when the one being abusive uses this stereotype to their advantage.

It's horrible that men are too embarrassed due to stupid gender roles to report being abused.
The adverts just support that stereotype.

It's the exact same with rape too.
yep. A man reporting rape will seriously get laughed at.

It's awesome how women claim so many rights and so much special treatment because of an extra X chromosome.

Onyx shush.

Men have had a very hard time convincing law enforcement they are the victims of abuse. Even as far as one man being arrested multiple times when his children called the police because his wife was abusing him. He was wheelchair bound and she controlled his life. Not allowing him out of the house, taking all his money, and beating him. For years.

When the police would show up to the complaints, usually be his children, they would inevitably treat the man as the culprit, even through he was wheelchair bound, when it was brought to light that the women was the abuser they would usually leave, sometimes without even a warning.

The man even tried to obtain help from an abuse shelter and was turned away because (as the women on the phone put it) men are not abused, they are the abusers.

This kind of double standard should not be present in modern society, but it is.

This also gets a bit worse when some women will use this situation to show off the unfairness of gender stereotyping but will then proceed to go and actually call another woman a whore for doing it.

Considering that actual domestic abuse cases are split down 50/50 on who is the abuser, I agree that there should be more adverts that show an abusive woman.

Unfortuantely, women are shown as victims and that reinforces the stereotype that they only are victims, thus potentially raising the incidences of abuse towards them.

This, and if a man defends himself it would most likely be assault. If brought to court it would be his word against her's, so he wouldn't stand a chance...

The chances of woman doing it are far less than men, and the woman break the man from the inside, not very visual and isn't often seen.

Like the Walk Against Male Violence, sure there is female violence but they are so few that they are not even worth talking about.

It's because he didn't properly train his mate!

I kid I kid male stereotype screws us there.

It's because men usually have pride considering we have to protect you because your fragile and delicate right?

Thats terrible, however double standards let us buy false sense of accomplishment and thats what people like right? Getting halfway thinking thats enough and then stopping. This backwards thought thank god doesn't occur during mating :p

At the same time? Well yeah, and any man who does that is an ass as well. Well, unless it's actually AT the same time, then it's a threesome and it's ok.

But really, usually it's women who call other women names like whore when they are presented as a sexual threat. Women hate and are in constant competition with other women and they will tear down any woman they find threatening.

I would not call it awesome.
I would call it a failure of feminism.
Instead of leveling the playing field, all it seems to have resulted in is for it to pendulum in the other direction.

Domestic abuse cases are more or less split on who is the abuser. But it is true that women are more likely to use emotional abuse which is just as bad as physical abuse. Sadly this kind of abuse is rarely picked up on by the police or whoever when the man actually does try to get help, obviously this is because men don't have emotions.
