That's retarded. That's like saying you are either gay or homophobic. I eat beef. I love seeing cows in a barn. I eat pork. Pigs are awesome. I love my pets. I once ate dog. The world isn't black and white, everything is grey. There are never, ever, only two sides of a story. Example: I admire Hitler for his charisma and his ability to return a country to its former glory and then some. He also was a horrible person, I will never follow him anywhere and if he would still be alive I don't know what I would do, but it'd be bad.

This phrase "If you eat animals you can't love animals" can be interpreted two different ways. The way most people seem to be interpreting it "If you eat any animal, you can't love any animal" is clearly going to be flawed as there are so many counter examples like "I like eating beef, but I love my pet dog".

The other way to interpret it (and I think the correct way) is that you can't love what you eat. While I could point out a few extreme counter examples I find the intent of this argument to be true. That is you can't raise something with the intent to kill and consume it or contribute to that process and love it.

I have no problem saying I don't love most animals. I love those few that I develop a personal attachment to for whatever reason and that is the extent of it. I find animals interesting, and I value what they contribute to the biosphere and scientific understanding. That said I also believe in minimizing suffering within reason for any animal while using them for whatever purpose humans desire. I have no ethical problems raising any non-sapient animal to be slaughtered if its suffering is of similar or lesser magnitude of what it would endure in the wild. I make an effort to avoid anything produced under what is considered "intensive/factory farming" for this reason alone.

Wow that's some very binary reasoning we've got going on there. I suppose this person thinks the world is black and white too. ¬___¬
And that the Earth is flat

But in all seriousness that's a load of bull, you can easily do both I know I do and my dogs do not judge me one bit.

I only agree with this as an excuse to not have to love animals, I hate animals and using this is a good excuse to not have to explain why I am a miserable sod

Nonsense, the only way this theory holds weight is if their was just one type of animal.

Could I love cats if I ate them? Probably not. But I don't eat cats, I eat cows, pigs, chickens, and some other stuff, and I love none of those nor claim to.

I don't know about you guy's, but I found this idea completely idiotic, the way I see it, we are in the food chain as-well as the animals, it's natural for us to eat them.
That's a fallacy, my friend. Just because we can do something doesn't mean you should. As human beings we are physically capable of inflicting all sorts of atrocities on those around us. It doesn't mean we should.

Animals have been formally recognized the animals we farm and eat as being as conscious and aware as we are. We also don't have to eat anything that comes from an animal. We vegans aren't dropping dead or losing our thumbs because we're eating 'lower down on the foodchain.'

Animals are consciously aware: http://io9.com/5937356/prominent-scientists-sign-declaration-that-animals-have-conscious-awareness-just-like-us

I'm going to say that your facebook friend has a point.

Do you believe pigs are less capable of suffering than dogs or cats? Or are you making arbitrary distinctions?

Well, I personally wouldn't have used apostrophes on plurals, as they tend to sap the credibility of an argument.

Anyone who doesn't eat what's given to them on their plate is a fussy eater, there is no need for these subcategories of fussy-eaters like 'Vegetarian' and 'Vegan' and whatever other made-up titles are created stop being such a fussy eater. End of.

i like cats, foxes and several other animals, just because i love me some beef, doesn't mean i don't love animals, just means I'll never see a cow as anything other the 'future food'

No. Just no. Who is...no.

There are farm animals used specifically for being used for a food supply, and then there are the domestic puppies and kittens. They are pretty different. I can love a dog yet eat a pig.
Well, what if you ate a dog and loved a pig?

Pigs are smarter than dogs, I don't think that differentiating between domestic/food supply animals is a good argument for talking about "loving animals".

I myself eat meat, but I also like pigs when they're alive too.

I would just as well have no qualms with eating dog meat.

From personal experience, vegetarians, vegans and other assorted aryans are the most self-entitled, intolerant, preachy and annoying folks around.

I'm not talking about the Kaurs and Singhs of this world, they're generally a lovely bunch of people. I'm talking about the Smiths and Schmidts that have seen the light and now feel more superiour than some White Pride Scientology mutts.

I love, respect, raise and eat animals. If someone thinks that doesn't all fit together, so be it, but please, Lord, make them pester and pummel someone else, as I'm done trying to ineract with the veggie bunch. They just annoy the pants off me head, Ted.

t'a.

This one time a fussy-eater referred to me as an 'animal' for eating meat.

To this day I still don't see the problem that person had with me eating another animal therefore I conclude that the person must hate all animals that eat meat. (Which is a lot of animals)

Lions, cats, dogs, bears, crocodiles and (some) birds and a lot of other animals all eat meat. So why can't we?

I love animals. I also love the taste of meat.

I don't see what the complication here is.

I like animals way more than people, in general.

People just don't look like they'd be good to eat, and I'd go to jail for doing it, anyway.
