Parasomnia, usually leading to lucid nightmares with phantom pains. If I don't get that far then it's constant hallucinations.

A quick browse of my post history, and it's pretty obvious what keeps showing up in my REM sleep and fucking with my head.

I can go without decent sleep for a fair few days, but to get back on track I need a combination of tranquillisers, hypnotics and about half a bottle of liquor to knock myself out.

When it gets to the point of only 4-5 hours remaining i tend to get up, and drink alot of fizzy pop and get myself hyper so i can power through and pass out the next night instantly...i wish they still made vanilla coke, that stuff sent me hyper, can't seem to find anything else that does the trick as well.

For some reason I really like watching/reading scary things at like 2 AM. Not sure why I keep doing it but, it never fails. Marble Hornets and the Scary Thread are my bane.

Do what I do and bark at the dog till it shuts up or the neighbors get frustrated and shut it up... Either that or bury your head in pillows... or just pull an all nighter.
Heh Devoted, They make vanilla coke, I'm drinking a can RIGHT now ...

I'm awake because depression has once again tucked in bed with me and stolen all the fucking blankets. I've burned all my bridges and have nothing to fall back on, and am bitterly contemplating what I know I don't actually have the guts to do. And that's why I'm awake. okay?
I don't even know why I'm posting. This isn't helping.

If I'm up at night, it's either because I'm thinking about something that has me really excited or I've had caffeine too late at night.
But what I find more annoying than being up late is waking up repeatedly during the night due to stupid little things.
I haven't experienced anything that saps my energy as much as waking up three or four times in one night.

Well, by the timestamp on your post and the time you're quickly approaching, you're on Greenwich time, so I assume shooting anything is out of the question... personally, I use a combination of beer and valerian root extract when I absolutely need to sleep through anything... but you need to plan ahead for that sort of thing.

My advice: keep trying to sleep, no doubt your neighbor has done what he can short of muzzling the dog to shut it up. Dogs that are kept inside are like that (I could never have a dog if I lived in an apartment... that's practically abject cruelty right there). You'll probably go to work tired, but missing one night of sleep never killed anyone... at least not directly. Tomorrow, get yourself some sleep aids.
I could shoot it with a Nerf gun, but that'd probably make it bark more..

Can you at least report the damn thing for disturbing the peace?
I'd like to think so, but the police here aren't very helpful when it comes to things like this.

What keeps me awake? Just my inability to stop my mind from thinking about whatever. I have a lot of sleeping issues (though lately, I've been doing really well, which is something I am taking advantage of).

But when I really need help, I go to my iPod, turn it's speakers up to the point where it is barely audible, and play (something similar to) this.

Helps me a lot. The sound of rain and thunder (not loud loud thunder) really helps me.

My brother is sometimes a dick and sits there on the computer. The incessant typing, light from the screen, and sometimes sound from games makes it difficult to sleep.

An incredibly active mind, the only way I've been able to sleep is by climbing my very steep roof at 3AM, but only if it's raining really hard.

No, you can't sleep. If I'm awake, I must not be tired and thus will stay up. When I want to sleep, I sleep. I'll never understand why insomnia happens.

So my question is this, Escapist: What keeps you awake at night?
My goddamn neighbour knocking on my door complaining about my dog! And my goddamn dog!

sometimes I just can't sleep, no matter how hard I try, more than once I've gotten up for school at 6:15 after going to bed at 3:30, sometimes I just give up and go play my xbox a bit to pass the time until I actually start to get tired.

The feeling of something watching me, that and the sound and feel of air from the window...
Both of these things can be easily solved by closing the windows and pulling the blinds down, but they complain it's not healthy to do that!

my mind keeps me awake. As soon is i lay down in bed alone, my mind wanders around, sooner or later working on some problem, worry or task. and if there is no current problem or worry. today is such a happy day. it likes to annoy me with reminding me of some past situation, may it be 3 days or 12 years ago, whatever association can bring up and i start to think about what i could have done better. i hate this. i got used to distract my mind with audiobooks. works quite good.
strangely this only happens when i am alone. if i am in the same bed, or even room with someone i like, be it my gf or just a friend, i can sleep without any problems.
