The people in the apartment above me make thumping noises pretty much 24/7. and before your dirty minds hop into the gutter, it sounds like there jumping around on pogo sticks

Ear plugs.
If you don't have earplugs, just relax and ignore the dog, the more you think about it, the more annoying it will become.

Watching a painfully slow update for the Witcher which I've just installed is keeping me up.
90kbps, seriously. It's been running for over 4 hours and is on 90% now.

sometimes I just can't sleep, no matter how hard I try, more than once I've gotten up for school at 6:15 after going to bed at 3:30, sometimes I just give up and go play my xbox a bit to pass the time until I actually start to get tired.
Ah, same, though mine is less severe: Usually I fall asleep by 12-1 AM on bad nights.

Knock again. Threaten to kill his dog.

At least that's what I'd do.
I like this guy!

If I can't sleep I'm either conciously thinking about something that worries me, or I'm having nightmares about it. Doesn't help that I'm incredibly creative, weaving myself deep, metaphorical, mindf***ing, and downright disturbing dreams.

I've a friend over in Canada, staying up this late is the only way to talk with her. I think she feels a little guilty about my messed up sleeping pattern (Usually 5 a.m. -> 2/3 p.m.) but she's a classy lady and worth it.
Another thing which plagues me is my mind not liking sleeping at odd times, so for instance I could go to sleep fine at 2:30 a.m., but if it's 2:37 a.m. I have to wait until 3:00 a.m., my brain likes 30 minute segments.

The clock is ticking closer and closer to 1am, I have to work tomorrow, my alarm set for 6am. If I went to sleep now I could get 5 hours of sleep. As it is, I'm laying in bed being kept awake by my neigbour's dog barking. The dog has been barking non stop for nearly an hour now. I've knocked on my neigbour's door and kindly requested that they make their beloved animal shut up. I was blessed with almost 5 minutes of silence before it started barking again. So here I am, wide awake, extremely pissed off with no chance of sleep anytime soon.

So my question is this, Escapist: What keeps you awake at night?
Nothing

My day goes like this usually:

WAKE UP AT 6AM
let the dogs out
work out LIKE A BOSS
eat breakfast/ commence news aggregation
plan out what I'm doing that day
shower, make myself presentable
employees show up
COMMENCE THE FASHION FRENZY
om nom nom nom some lunch
MOAR FASHION
employees go home
work out more BEAST MODE
om nom nom dinner
shower again
watch some TV, read, send out last minute e-mails to clients
make sweet love to my lady
sleep

On an average day I burn 3500 calories and lead my team in the construction between twenty and twenty five custom fitted garments. Some I'm exercising my physical side, the creative centers of my brain, and the logical/ business oriented side as well. At the end of the day there's nothing left of me and I crash out but in the morning I'm always up and ready to do it all over again.

My Ipod. Seriously I'm addicted to that thing. Even if I've just spent hours on the computer I just have to play (watch youtube) on my Ipod. Even if theres nothing to do on it I literally NEED to play it! I'm trying to quit cold turkey. Which isn't easy when I listen to music to help me sleep. Also try listening to music.

What keeps me up at night? I really don't know. Usually something really exciting or stressful is happening the next day. Typically I'll fall asleep. Rarely will I get insomnia from it. That just happens randomly with me. But now that I discovered Enya that won't be a problem anymore!

Probably better to get head phones (not the electronic kind you may or may not be wearing) or as you might know them, "ear-mufflers", ear-plugs can be really uncomfortable. That and close the window if you have it opened, although that might make you feel too warm as it is almost Summer and that just brings up a new set of complications...

Well, being an unemployed agoraphobe, I rarely need to leave the house during the day, so I don't sleep at night. I tend to sleep around 5am and wake up after 11am. Sometimes I'll take a nap around like 3-5pm. Then its time for some more video games, reading, browsing the internet...

Heh. I may be a jobless loser with no future, but my life sort of rules.
