Never feel ashamed of what university you attend, as long as you honestly tried. And don't look at a poor university as an end point for your education - look upon it as a spring board for a better one.
I was lucky, I got into a good university in Australia right off the bat. Plenty of decent, hardworking, intelligent people I know did not. There's only so many places at these institutions, and they have to turn down people who aren't stupid or untalented by any means.
You can still learn, even if you go to a "less prestigious" institution. Remember, University Rankings aren't based on how well they teach you, but on how much money they have and how much research they generate.
But on Topic - In my state, Queensland, there aren't any universities that are "mocked". All of the main ones do a fairly decent job. We have The University of Queensland, which is mine. We have Griffith, my father's university. We have Bond, which used to be really shady but has built up a very solid reputation over the last few years.
Then there's the Queensland University of Technology - some students at UQ look down at QUT, but I know some of the staff there and they're hard-working and intelligent people. It's a fine university, depending on what you want to learn. It has a fairly good IT and engineering faculty, but I have heard its biological sciences capabilities are a bit behind the rest.
James Cook University is one that I have heard decent things about, but I haven't really paid much attention to.
The only ones which are a bit questionable are the very recent ones: "University of the Sunshine Coast" and the "University of Southern Queensland". I haven't heard much about these universities. I don't know if they're any good or not.
But again, no one deserves mockery for attending these universities, provided that they are genuinely interested in their education and their passion in life. UQ is probably "the best" university in Queensland, but if you're not interested in Medicine or Biological Sciences or Law, then attending UQ isn't going to give you an advantage over any other university. QUT, Griffith and Bond can train excellent engineers, IT experts and architects.
You don't have to attend "the best" university in order to get a damn good education. Try to attend the best university that can get you want you want out of life for the best price.
