Every single generation always complains about the next one down the line. It's been like this from beginning of time and it'll stay that way until we're all organic batteries for our supreme cybernetically enhanced alien overlords.

It's their business. Sure, it's stupid, but I don't think the problem is in the generation or the technology. That same girl getting depressed over the number of likes would be getting depressed over the number of whistles 50 years ago. Same shit, different age. We're just getting better at being stupid, it doesn't mean that what we use while we're stupid is stupid in itself.

Kind of like not blaming the scissors when someone decides to cut their cock off with it. It's the person, not the tool.

I have a Facebook just so I can say I do. I never use it. What's the point?

It's only useful if I need some juicy gaming news. That or when the escapist is running a bit low on stuff during the weekends.

HAHAHA!!! So I don't exist! AWESOME!

Boo ************! I'm a ghost!

I used to have Bookface (you have to say "book" first, otherwise it just sounds stupid), but it became a fucking hassle. I wrote insightful updates that no one either took seriously or didn't care about, yet 12 year olds who write shit like, uhhmmm, taking a shit get 6000 likes.

It's bullshit, which is why I ragequit Bookface.

If that's what it takes, do I even want to exist? I mean, there's not point to doing something just because it's socially accepted, or it'll make you popular. Now, if you actually enjoyed it, then that's be another story...

I going to point out that not all teens are like that.

The ones that are, well, I'm not sure how they can be that stupid.
Fixed that for you.

OT: Yeah, they're stupid teenagers. Who gives a rat's ass?
Aha, touché. Yeah, it's stupid and irrational beyond belief. Teenagers who surrender themselves to Facebook.

27 here and I can totally agree with the bold part, at least for my life.
While you may miss out on some stuff, at least you're here, at least YOU EXIST.
I'm gonna play devils advocate here and point out that until you saw me post, did you realise I existed?

If you don't keep up contact with people, it is like you don't exist because you forget they were ever there unless they made a significant impact on your life. Hell, to me most of london's population doesn't really exist, they're just kinda... there. I don't know them, the second they're out of my view it's like they were never there at all.

Food for thought.

Hey! I don't have an account on a social network and I exi-
Wait, what's happening to my arm? Help meee!!!
I loathe the way that FB has become some sort of analogy for the Internet or life in general. If Bioware wants to put a poll exclusively on FB, then fuck 'em, I'm not voting. If a store gives me a discount for liking them on FB, then I'll just go into another store.
I'm 17 BTW and I know people like this. They nagged on me a bit to get an FB account, but after a while they retreated to their computers never to be heard again. Good riddance.

This is one of the reasons why I refuse to give in and join any social networking junk... Which is odd because virtually everyone in my school has some sort of facebook page or twitter account.
And how is that working out for you? I know it didn't work out for me whatsoever, and severely hindered my social experience.

Most of these days, it seems like people believe that everyone has some sort of facebook account.
In general, they do, unless they have something wrong with them and they don't want to socialise, or perhaps are from a country where internet is not widely available.

I remember I could google my name and I wouldn't be able to find myself on anything. So according to the internet I didn't exist until I joined Facebook.

My younger brother used to spend hours on MySpace(before Facebook got big) and he would get irritable if he wasn't able to check it.

True, you do have a point. I see people all around me all the time and only acknowledge they're there because I see them. However when I said you exist I meant it in a way as to there are people who care about you and that sometimes actual interactions with people will always be mare meaningful and important than online ones. At least for me that holds true.

I found an even better social Network, it's called "The Outside World"! It's amazing, I can just open up dialog with anyone by walking up and talking to them! I don't even have to add them to a friend's list! I just somehow "Consider them a friend" after I've had enough positive interactions with them! It's amazing!
...or I could just do both. I find that quite simple.

According to teens, If your not on a social network you're not alive and you don't exist. I think this is absolutely ridiculous. These girls would rather check there Facebook for a whole day than learn something in class. (that I don't mid too much.) HOWEVER! These the only thing that runs in the minds of these girls are getting home and uploading a picture of them selves just to have others comment on them. One girl even became depressed because one of her friends got more "likes" than her.

Before your start attacking me and saying things like, "they are only young girls! They don't understand!" That's not the point. The point is that these kids are setting a bad example for all teens these days who would rather interact through facebook than in real life. It's saddening to see so many kids shallow intentions.

What do you think about this? Do you really think this is how most kids 16 and younger think now a days?

Also let me leave you a quote from this article: "There's more 'life' happening online than offline. If you are not online, you are completely out of the loop--you don't have a life, you don't really exist."

EDIT: Fixed the title from 'your' to 'You're'
Newsflash: Kids are self important & vain and would rather do other things than school.

According to them I'm nonexistent? Cool. I've never cared about shallow networking (social, sorry). I got a facebook account a couple years ago just to see what all the hype was about. I deleted it a couple months later. It just seemed so pointless to me. So if I "don't exist" if I don't have a facebook, then I don't really care. I've got more important things to do with my life than boring people with every mundane detail of my life.

So you never ever thought about -WHY- they're doing that, huh?
Can't possibly have something to do with them trying to get some attention and confirmation from the world, but what am I saying!? There's no chance in hell that could be the case, I mean for teenage girls to seek attention and confirmation and even go as far as comparing themselves to others!
What kind of blasphemy is spewing from my mouth!?!
